With its history, Long Wa is a legend and we absolutely digged this old-school delight that almost teleported us instantaneously to the 1960s! We went early and were able to relish the atmosphere of the old teahouse before it got busy. It is filled with antiques and other curiosities so there was much to feast our eyes on while waiting for our food. We were in between meals so we modestly ordered only two dim sum items to try but both were so good we regretted not being able to try more dishes. So without a doubt we would make a straight beeline back to Long Wa should we revisit Macau. Except for perhaps an English menu, we hope this place never changes!

The environment is good, the green wall tiles are very distinctive , and the price is reasonable , Some of the food you need to help yourself to, but also feel the atmosphere.

This is a very spacious chinese restaurant which serves dim sum in the morning. No smoking environment but it is a bit beaten up. The tea is very good and you can buy more for souvenir. They close at noon time, so make sure you go there early.

We decided to go back in time and visited this restaurant on a Saturday, at around 1:15 pm for dim sum. It was not busy and they were closing at 2 pm. Dim sum was self served on a table. The worker came over with tea and a bowl and hot water for you to rinse your own utensils. There were only 2 types of dim sum left on the table so I took one of each. The owner said that there will be more coming out. The taste of the dim sum was below average. Nothing came out so we ordered a plate of beef with stir fry noodles. The noodles were OK but nothing special. More dim sum finally came out but only 2 types. I was discouraged at this point with the dim sum so we left. Maybe that would be more dim sum if we had arrived earlier. We picked this place because a lot of movies were filmed here. Decor was old time Chinese and it was cool but I cannot deal with bad food! The price was high considering the quality of the food that was served. Forget about service. We saw a customer wiping up his own table with a towel--that was comical. We came, we saw, we will not be back. Go if you want to see a traditional tea house from the old days but not for the food.

There is a selection of teas on display to choose from. The kitchen is in the restaurant so you feel like you are eating in a home.
Eating utensils come to the table in a bowl of boiling water for you to rinse yourself.
Traditional dish is boiled chicken with minced ginger & shallots. If the food is too oily, help yourself to the boiling water. Rinse the food in a rice bowl of boiling water.
When you pay, note the old cash tray & abacus on the counter. Chinese & English menu. Definitely a cultural experience!

Really enjoyed this "hidden gem" behind the Red Market Our friend from Hong Kong took us as he knew we were great fans of Dim Sum. And we were not disappointed! You choose the dishes you want and take them to your table- relaxed atmosphere, full of local people, lovely artwork, plants and pottery. A delicious experience in every sense.

My wife and I visited this traditional Dim Sum restaurant last week. Easy to get to via the number 3 bus to Red Market. We arrived around 10:30 am and there were plenty of tables available. First impression is a restaurant that hasn't been decorated or up graded for decades but that is the charm of the place. Your eating your dim sum in a 1950's Chinese movie set. The dim sum was different. Hawker style five treasures were presented as dim sum dishes, acceptable but not exceptional. No Ha Gow or Siu Mi here and rather dry Cha Siu Bao. Come here if you like old charm ambiance and old style decoration. You can find better dim sum elsewhere.

Nostalgic dim sum invites visitors to the very locality of Macau. There is actually the place where local people enjoy their dim sum, of course the tourists are welcomed. I think the tourists should expect the ordinary time in Macau.
It may be too early to have brunch in the Christmas morning, as there were a few guests so not many choice, nor seemed a while after steamed. But tasted sufficiently good and also jasmine tea.
The master is kind to us though we didn't know the manner to have dim sum. No words between us, as he doesn't speak English. But we felt his kindness toward visitors enough.
Back from the trip, we got know that the restaurants deals with Chinese tea leaf. It should be next time.

I am actually a long time neighbor and went there because my friends wanted to go. This is an old style restaurant for Cantonese dim sum. The owner retained many of their old decorations which really reminds me of the good old days. The food is also the "old" taste but there is really nothing to complain about the food as that is not what we coming here for. Most things are self service but we are happy with our visit.

The location is in Macau, it is old, and the food tastes good and special, all the thing is traditional , food, place , table , also the feeling. That time I went with my friends, there are no staff to service you, many kinds of food stay on a table, and we need to take it by ourselves, the most special food for me is "steamed chicken", it tastes smooth and soft, I miss the feeling until today一一一一一一一一一一一一一一一一一一一一一一一一一一一一一一一一一一一一一一一一一一一一一一一一一一

It is a traditional restaurant and the design is antique. There is no lift and people have to walk a steep staircase in order to reach there. We have to make the tea and get the dim sum by ourselves, no one is going to serve us and this is the difference comparing to the Chinese restaurant nowadays. The choice of dim sum is not enough and the taste of dim sum are ordinary. The prices of the dim sum are more expensive than the other restaurant because this restaurant is famous for its architecture, not their food. What I like the most about this restaurant is its interior design. I felt like I had gone back to the 1970’s. The staffs there are friendly and they love chatting with customers. It’s located at roadside and it’s easy to find its location. If you want to try traditional dim sum or you like antique design, you should try this restaurant and surely you will love this environment.

Exactly the same as what you watched in 90s TVB show, where people bringing in their birds (with cage of course), reading newspaper while sipping the hot chinese tea, others chit chatting around. It's such a marvelous scene.
It's like step in those older day. You have to go to get your dimsum, and as I went during weekday, it's not crowded and the choice of dimsum is very limited.
Worth trying !
Additional note: There's a flight of stairs you have to climb. If you come with senior citizen make sure they able to climb stairs.

Located adjacent to the Red Market, this traditional style Cantonese tea house has a long history, which can be traced back to the 1960s. Walking up a flight of stairs, the first sight greeted us was the calligraphy and paintings. And the whole floor is basically surrounded by windows on two sides, letting in the air so even though it is in the hot summer and without air-con, there is a nice breeze making us very comfortable when seated at the table overlooking the balcony.
The dim sum is self-serviced, which means that you need to go out to grab what you want. But first we ordered the tea, which is very good and I understand the owner is very proud and conscious of the tea quality, and there is in fact a wide range of different tea you could choose. Another point to note is that most people would perceive such a tea house to be dirty and filthy, but it is the opposite with the utensils neat and clean, the environment bright and orderly.
Coming to the food I had grabbed siu mai, stuffed green bell pepper, spongy cake, steamed spare ribs, and fish meatball. The siu mai is made from a good mixture of fat and lean meat, and even though lacking the sophistication or flair of many modern restaurants with shrimp and other ingredients, the simplicity did provide a sense of homecoming and memory for the taste we enjoyed when still being a kid.
The stuffed green bell pepper is also decent, though it is not hot and maybe the dim sum had been sitting in the trolley for quite a while. Still the fish meat was marinated well and the bell pepper crunchy but not raw. The black bean sauce also added the flavors to the dish.
The spongy cake is always Ivy's favorite and the one from Long Wa is also quite well prepared, with softness and spongy texture while balancing well on sweetness.
The spare ribs is my favorite on the day, however. It had got the right portion of meat, fat and cartilage so making it chewy, crunchy and juicy, each cut in small pieces. The seasonings are also done perfectly. While in today's standard it may seem a bit oily, the overall taste and texture really are a good highlight of the traditional dim sum.
Fish meatball is another of my favorite dim sum, and the one I tasted here certainly lived up to the standard I looked for. There is not a lot of flour added to the fish meat, and the flavors of fish is still clearly identified, along with the spring onion and citrus peel. Even without adding soy sauce or white pepper powder the taste is a real treat.
The price for the meal was fairly reasonable with five dim sums and tea for two persons totaling $155, with each dim sum costing $25 and the tea $15 per person. If you are looking for such old style tea house, I don't think there are that many in HK and Macau nowadays and Long Wa is certainly one I would recommend.
My overall rating is 53/100.
