Highly recommended, excellent, friendly staff. We didn't have a reservation, but the landlord organized a table for us despite the place being sold out. We went to this restaurant because of the Styrian fried chicken. And we didn't regret it: the best fried chicken in a long, long time. And a huge portion too, we took some home with us.
All in all, great. You can also go hiking and cycling in the area.
Recommendation: definitely reserve a table

I ordered my dish and when it finally arrived (after waiting more than 45 minutes) the wonderful surprise:there was a flyer on my plate! I asked for a refund but they denied it to me. I'll never come back

At a location surrounded by forest like that of “Prieselbauer”, one expects very basic restaurants, offering only a small choice of dishes. However, “Prieselbauer” does not fall into this category. It shares with restaurants of this kind only the rustic appearance of a former farmhouse, but is much bigger. Its dining area spread over several rooms is spacious and its terrace also quite large.
The menu was comprehensive and meat-heavy with a focus on peasant dishes as well as regional cuisine and comprised some specialties such as spare rips. Prices were rather a little higher than in the nearby towns down in the valley, but on the other hand, portion sizes ranged from large to huge. The waiter at our table tended to be forgetful and became fresh when being reminded of orders he had forgotten. This did not bother us much because it was far more important for us that the food be all right, which was indeed the case because it tasted fine. Thus, “Prieselbauer” turned out to be a complete, decent restaurant with children’s playground and alike, despite its remote location.

Thought I would review this resturant having been there on two previous holidays and always had an excellent experience.
Food - very generous and well priced Austrian dishes. Venison dish was superb.
Location - difficult to find but worth the effort - head up to the castle and take the side road for a couple of KMS. The Veranda seating gives stunning views.
Service - friendly and helpful (family run).
Need to know - closed Wednesday and Thursday.

Very popular destination above Kapfenburg and Brück an der Mur on the way up to Frauenberg. Ideal for casual eating although I am sure theocrats would use it for celebrations as well. A well designed Austrian chalet style building. Extremely well run local establishment. 46cm local sourdough open "bread sandwich" topped with various meats or trout. (See pic of "fleisch brot " with pork meat) Large choice of dishes on the menu. Very good prices. Large open terrace with beautiful views. Play area for children and various animals, goats, lamas, deer to look at. Wonderful walks from there around the mountains. One of the most popular restaurants in the area. Check the opening times. In winter only open Friday Saturday Sunday. One can drive up and there is ample parking. A good walk from Kapfenberg which would take about 2 hours taking it steady.

The gasthaus is situated on a narrow road en route up to a local mountain. One can either go on a walking trip and stop off on the way up or down or just drive and park in their large car park. In the winter cars only with winter tyres could attempt the drive. You must check beforehand with the Gasthaus the situation. The gasthaus caters to a wide group of parties, families, couples, singles. They have goats, horses, wild dear etc. The food is really good, portions are often very large and the service is good too. The interior is a combination of typical Austrian design but mixed with chandeliers and eclectic decorative items. Great views of the surrounding valley sitting inside or outside. If you just want a sandwich then order a Fleisch Brot but one between 2 people might be sufficient.
