This was once a good takeaway where pies , cakes and fish & chips were excellent, but no longer. The last twice of visiting the meat pies were over seasoned with pepper, cheese & onion a sloppy disgusting mess which ended up in the bin...More

Visited recently and 'ate in'. The Haddock & Chips tea bread and butter was served up quickly and tasted delicious.

Adequate fish and chips but nothing special. Very slow service despite there being a large staff and assembly line organisation. Very expensive too.

We ordered small pensioners fish and chips, with that you get a free battered scallop. Also ordered sausage and chips and a Grandma Pollards Meat Pie all I can say is worth a blumming visit. If you are in the area visit this chippy. They...More

Went here after going past smelling the fish and chips for weeks. The food was good however in my opinion slightly over priced. The homemade cakes looked great and we took one each home and we weren't disappointed. Glad I tried but not sure I'd...More

Although I no longer live in the area, I always make a point to visit Grandma Pollards when I'm back to visit. Best chips I've had anywhere, probably helped along by the beef dripping... The potato scallops they include for free with your order are...More

We went out of our way to visit because of the reputation - but now we've been, we have no idea why this is a 'famous chippy'. The fish and chips were exceptionally greasy. The batter was heavy and the fish itself was dry. The...More

I cannot really answer that question,I have asked a number of people and we all are stumped on it,As the batter is light and fluffy (My words) it is hard to tell,no doubt it will be Grandma Pollards secret.

This is not an ordinary chip shop. There is a lovely resturant or an old bus to dine in. In summer eat outside or by the canal.Childrens menu and wide range of meat pies and puddings available. The vanilla slices are great as wellaethe fruit pies All home made. All avilable with tea/coffee, bread and butter. Just go in the chp shop, order and the meal is brought to you at your table. The service is excellent. It is an experience to dine in the bus usually accompanied by 60s/70s music in the backgrund. The bus can be hired for private parties. The shop is open Mon. and Tues till 3.30pm and Wed.Thurs.and Fri. till 8pm. Not open Sat and Sun. It really is an experience (very good one), and well worth a visit. The place is spotless. We have been going many years now and there .are many regulars. I would recommend the chippy for a very enjoyable experience.
