We were in Biarritz and 2 locals told us about this gem. They said if you only have 24 hours in the area, GO HERE! It was an easy 30 drive from town and we were transported to the local charm. The hotel is lovely and very well maintained - but the food! It's worth the trip alone for dinner... More

We had a lovely meal here. It is worth it. It had lots of the things I like: local produce, vegetarian options and on request a vegetarian main course, great dessert, amuse bouches, petit fours, breads, well timed service, good wine, an explanation of what we were eating and wonderfully cooked and tasty food.

I made a reservation online and received a confirmation. However five hours later I was sent a cancellation via text without an explanation. This is poor customer service.

I stayed at this hotel while hiking the gr10 route. The hotel is very nice with a very friendly and welcoming staff. They did not even ask for a passport or anything and where very friendly. The town Ainhoa is very pretty and I think Ithurria is the perfect place to sleep and of course eat! The restaurant is rather... More

If you are looking for well cooked typical basque food at sensible prices this is the place for you. The Bistro is the well priced option to the main Michelin restaurant at the Ithurria hotel. The food is hearty and you need to have a good appetite.I did not eat in the main restaurant but the menu had a similar look,... First impressions are lasting ones and my impression of the place suffered when, as we were discussing our wine selection, the waiter or sommelier felt it was more important to break away from our table to fuss over other guests, leaving us gaping at mid sentence. Things deteriorated later when the lid was whisked away from my truffle and egg... More

It took our 4th visit to the Pays Basque to discover this gastronomic gem. It's ambience is Old World with a rustic feel quite typical of Switzerland. It offers a lack of pretence not characteristic of Switzerland or of most restaurants that boast a Michelin star. We arrived one hour late and were welcomed without the slightest hint of displeasure.... More

Went for dinner with Spanish friends on a Saturday night; quiet dining room, spacious, in an old building with modern furnishings. Perfect service, attentive and unobtrusive. One of the top chefs in the Basque world, and the food shows it! Exceptional wine list, featuring regional wines of excellence, including a first-rate selection of Iroleguy wines (nearby). Over the years, we... More

Having read several reviews previously, we choose to eat here on my wife's birthday - we were not disappointed as we did not expect to be given that it has been awarded a Michelin Etoile. The restaurant setting is perhaps a little "heavy" but that is perhaps to be expected in this lovely Basque village. The food was well cooked,... More

On the french side of Basque country, just 25 km from the just you'll find Ainhoa, once voted the mos beautiful village in France. Her you will find a very fine and pleasant restaurant called Ithurria. Thera are two parts, one more focused on gastronomique, and the other plainer, but still with excellent food. The staff are very kind and... More

Description
"The Ithurria Isabal family have been welcoming guests to the Ithurria Hotel in Aïnhou, France, for three generations. Set in the Basque countryside, the hotel has a warm, rustic ambience and is located close to the coast and the Spanish border. The dining room is the heart of the hotel, and with its terra cotta tiled floors, beamed ceilings and antique furniture the restaurant is ideal for cosy, romantic meals. Head Chef Xavier Isabal cooks up superb family recipes, and we love the Ithurria's signature foie gras pie cooked with ceps and fillets of wood pigeon served with a salad dressed with walnut oil and wild cherries in vinegar; and the Stephane cup – Bourbon vanilla ice cream with chantilly cream, grilled almonds and hot chocolate sauce.
