The options were to choose from the "tapas" section, or a tasting menu. We went for the former since we did not want a full meal, and also because from previous experiences in the Playa Blanca incarnation we know that in general at Coentro we prefer to choose. A Coentro classic, salmorejo with a goat cheese icecream, was very good as always, in fact my favourite dish, texturally pleasant and with great flavour balance. This time two other classics we like, the Chinese aubergines and the cod fritters, were not available a la carte, so we chose something new. A bocinegro (sea bream) was cooked very well (I think sous-vided), keeping a firm consistency, and came with nicely turned steamed vegetables. Pulpo asado was also cooked very well but almost overwhelmed by an assertive cheese cream, and the same goes for the white beans that came with it. Finally, a spicy chicken thigh cooked in "kamado" featured both creamed avocado, and an incredibly minute "pipirrana", quite a busy dish in terms of flavours. In sum, Coentro remains a very solid option for the good food lover, with great techniques and great produce, although in my subjective opinion, apart from the salmorejo, it does not produce the arresting dishes and the vividness of flavours that wow me at my top favourites. Prices are reasonable, service is friendly, and the relatively new Puerto Calero location, while not dreamy, is a definite improvement on the previous setting, with both an inside an an outside (covered) area in a pleasant little square.

Stunning food and service from a wonderful knowledgeable team. From the moment our waitress welcomed us, educating us on each dish on the menu, let alone the array of nightly specials on offer, we knew we were in for a special treat. Each dish was fantastic, particularly the Spanish Tomato Soup with the Goats cheese ice cream, wow, the Cod fritters and both Tuna dishes we had, all so fresh and creative. Having moved the Restaurant from Playa Blanca to Puerto Calero, where they are tucked away in the plaza above the port. Soon this hidden gem will be so easy to find as it will be the must visit in the Marina! Joao & team bravo!

It’s a difficult task to balance a sophisticated menu while retaining a flavor of local and simple food. This is exactly what’s achieved here. The asparagus with burrata and “lasagne “ tapas were highlights. Service couldn’t be friendlier- and a relaxed atmosphere added to our very pleasant experience

We made the trip toCoentro as the reviews rated this restaurant highly. The service was very good and they seated us even though we were early for our table. We were offered the tasting menu but as the detail was lacking we chose the tapas - bread olive oil. Soft shell crab, black tempura fish, octopus, chicken thigh, rib eye steak and goat meatballs. The bread was delicious and the soft shell crab. the black tempura fish was served in a pool of white sauce, as was the octopus as was the goat so this all tasted the same. The rib eye was very tough and grisly, we left half of it, we told the waitress who offered as a gesture to refund the bread ( the cheapest menu item) for the steak ( the most expensive!). As a caterer myself I hate to report bad practices in this way; but this restaurant is confused with its offer promotes BBQ but not evident in the menu, doesn’t respect criticism and is very overpriced. We paid 185€ inc.tip for 3 people. We have paid much less and had better food without an abundance of white sauce.

My partner and I went for a nice dinner after hearing many great things about Coentro and the adventurous chef. We were very excited. Unfortunately our experience was ruined due to very poor service, which I believe was partially due to discrimination. Being two young English diners, we were not treated the same as older, wealthier, spanish-speaking diners. We were told we couldn't smoke, only to see a different table offered an ashtray. We were told food wasn't served past 2200, only to see an older couple offered a table at 2145. It was deeply upsetting and made us feel like second class citizens. Also, after heading into the restaurant and asking for the bathrooms, I was ignored as the staff looked at each other and dismissively told each other I was English. A shame, as I am a fluent Spanish speaker so could u derstand what they were saying! I believe that a restaurant should treat all customers equally, which I do not feel happened here. Regarding the food - it was good. The dishes were fairly well-sized with good flavours. A lot of salt on a few which isn't to my liking, and some were over flavoured, masking natural flavours (i.e. scallops and ceviche), but generally few complaints with the food. We will not be returning, and would recommend that the restaurant staff consider how they treat their patrons. Even if we don't seem like we know what good service is, it's not worth the risk as a serious establishment.

This restaurant is grossly overpriced, offering tiny high quality tapas dishes at full portion prices. The wines are also incredibly priced, with many of the best local wines not available. It is not very comfortable and the tables are not properly laid for an establishment which prices as it does. We didn't see the prices on our phones (no offer of a printed menu) and the final bill fot four of us, having has 5 tapas, 1 bottle of local mediocre quality wine, 1 small bottle of water, 4 desserts and 2 tiny coffees was €199.10. The restaurant was recommended to us by ancient friends, very rich and having sparrows' appetites. Never again for us and we would dissuade anyone to go there to be ripped off. Emptor Caveat! John Temple.

Underwhelmed . Was looking forward to this experience. Unfortunately left feeling hungry. My party enjoyed the beef, but again whilst it was Tapas style it was nothing new for those that have experienced the worlds Cuisine. We were offered bread three times and whilst the bread was more than acceptable it’s really the only thing that gave sustenance. Food is served on interesting plates, pretty is pleasing but food should outweigh pretty. We asked did we order enough for three to be told we did, so why were we all hungry after this experience. The staff were friendly. I have eaten all around the world, but never ever have I left a restaurant feeling this hungry. The menu could be more varied but portion sizes should be increased. Tapas it may be fulfilling it isn’t. More different flavours required and less use if the Mojo sauce please. More creativity would be welcomed, to sustain an ever increasing challenging market.

It's not often you visit a restaurant these days and discover new and interesting dishes. We started with a cocktail each. The caipirahna and the tequila, both outstanding. Not knowing what to choose, we decided on the tasting menu (min 2 people) With each dish, there was a new set of flavours, each explained fully by the attentive waiting staff. The ingredients, carefully selected and fused in a way that you can taste each and every one of them. Every aspect of this restaurant has been thoughtfully put together providing something totally different from anywhere else on the island. It's not a cheap eat but it's definitely worth every penny.

Just returned from a fantastic meal, found this restaurant by chance online, decided as we were all inclusive to pop out and break up the week with something different. We absolutely loved it, think the best way to describe it is if Marcus Wearing did Tapas. I have seen some posts saying small portions and over priced etc, in our experience the food was beautiful, rich and filling, to be honest at the equivalent of £50 a head with drinks coffee an liqueurs I would go as far to say that fir the quality of food it is cheap/good value for money. I genuinely think this food is Michelin start worthy, if it wasn’t for the fact we are going home, would have gone back again, if nothing else it will make me return to Lanzarote .

We have been here before at the old location, so when we came back to lanzarote it was a must for us to go to Coentro. The service was great and the food was still some of the best I've tasted in the world. It brings something different to the island rather than cheap food on massive plates you get well thought out dishes with amazing flavours done to a very high standard, so much so that we traveled across the island twice to go here once for the taster menu and once for the tapas. Both myself and my wife have allergys, fish and cinnamon and the whole team made sure that it wasn't an issue and changed dishes to ensure we had a great meal. The whole team at Coentro are fantastic explaining different aspects of the food and how it's sourced, even putting us in touch with the lady who makes the crockery so we could buy some for home. Overall still a amazing place to go if you really love food.

If you are looking for a place that really plays with the flavors of the island cuisine proposing you a new cuisine and strong flavors Recommendation this place. Located in the center of the village is presented with a simple and open location with a very simple service. It does not have an extensive menu but enough choices to have fun at the table. The above average price is justified by the menu, even if the bill is equivalent to a tourist restaurant shampoo. The courses are not exaggerated but rich enough to dine with a main course and a shared one.

We found this place on Trip Advisor and what a find. The food is exceptional and really worth trying. Take a step off the main run of restaurants in the Marina and you will not be disappointed if you like exciting flavours. the team specialise in turning locally sourced produce into extremely tasty food. On the weeks we were they they had sourced a tuna, which they then turned into the best tuna carpaccio we have tasted. Great sized portions from a chef and team that have clearly worked in Michelin star restaurants before. It’s a little more expensive the Somme of the restaurants in town, but definitely worth going. Amazing food!!!

How this restaurant is voted 11th in Calero is beyond me. Yes it’s fine dining so not for everyone but if food is your thing, this is the number 1 eatery in the resort. We had the full tasting menu and wine pairing and it was excellent value at approx €75 euros per head. The food and wine were delightful and both are recommended for your consideration. The Staff were staff were also knowledgeable and polite. Thank you for a wonderful evening.

Our favourite restaurant in Lanzarote. So good we ate there on our first evening on the island and returned last night of the holiday! The conception of Brazilian chef João Faraco, Coentro provides a fresh take on traditional dishes focusing on the use of local produce. We had the same waiter both nights and the service was brilliant. The meal was more expensive than others we had during our trip, however for the quality of the food and the care taken in service and presentation we felt it was worth it. Across our two visits, we ordered: ○ Artisan Bread, AOVE oil & “Janubio” Salt served with the most amazing amuse-bouches of pork and takoyaki (Japanese Octopus Balls - which were better than any we ate in Japan!) ○ Special: Octopus with Canarian potatoes and a foam of potato mash with mojo sauce ○ Lettuce Heart: Braised, with Cashew “Ajoblanco” sauce & Pumpkin Seeds (our favourite dish of the whole trip! You will not believe how good lettuce can taste until you try this!) ○ Cold “Tinajo” Tomato Soup & Smoked Goat Cheese Ice Cream (we loved the soup and the ice cream was interesting and sharp but could perhaps have done with half the amount!) ○ Scallops au Gratin With Chilies & Lime Emulsion ○ Roasted Smoked Cheese With Mojos, Palm Honey & Canrian Black Potato ○ Local White Fish Tempura With “Jable” Sweet Potato Foam ○ Coconut Green Curry Mango Green Apple & Pistachio (not usually something I'd expect to be ordering for dessert but the coconut foam was so fresh and the pistachio ice cream core was just what we needed after a large meal!) ○ Salted Caramel in foam with “Janubio” Salt

First time here and some really great cooking on display. We had the tasting menu, 7 course (€39, €18 for three glasses wine) really good value as there are three appetisers also. Highlights were the pork slow cooked for 12 hours, the seafood croquettes and the melon. Not as good the collagen drink (tasted like sour milk). Sauces too many and in large quantities with some course, less is sometimes more. A lot of really great cooking. Wines were forgettable sadly but all in all great value lunch. A few tweaks and this place will be packed out.
