I had heard many good things about Cal Purgat over the years and have been very curious to see how good it is. The restaurant more than deserves the excellent rating it receives here. My only disappointment is that I had not been here earlier.
The service deserves a full 5 stars. The staff was knowledgeable about their food and wine offering and allow you to make your choices while recommending their favorites. I took up the recommendation for the pork roast that was simply fantastic.
Cal Purgat is simply one of the best restaurants that I have ever been to. It is unpretentious and is a reflection of just how good Catalan food can be. Many thanks to everyone working there for such a lovely experience, I look forward to coming back again and again.

Cal Purgat has an excellent reputation, so a table might be difficult to get. The restaurant serves delicious Catalan food and specializes in meats. Although the food is really tasty, the portions can be small so I might recommend getting extra appetizers. The restaurant has an awesome collection of wines, and the owners bring you different wines of the type you indicated to the table and you serve yourself. Later, you just deem the amount of glasses you had.

It was an experence, the dinner starts will glass of excellent spanish Cava! Than our lovley host brought us a few bottles of red wine for blind tasting to chose wine of the dinner. We picked 810 Cab Sav blended with Grenache, so smooth:). For starter we had buffalo salad and beef oxtail carppario, blow minding. Later was even better beef cheeks and octopus, you must try! Atmosphere just great, after a few glasses of dessert wine and chupitos everyone became so chatty:😁

Quite a great discovery!!! We ate, drank and were treated in luxury!!! A great system of leaving you several bottles of vinazos and you can try them at your leisure...we loved it! All the starters were exceptional (exquisite anchovies and xató), and both outstanding fish and meats, perfectly cooked and cooked and an excellent product! They invited us to several glasses of sweet wine with the desserts (also all sublime, bread with chocolate, tatin, figs with liqueur...)
Ramón's attention makes you feel at home from the moment you arrive, and the place is very small and preserves the charm of customs and tradition.
55 eur per head with a correct quality-price ratio. We will return whenever we can before the stars Maribel and Ramon retire...we hope (for our sake) that it is too late!!! THANK YOU!!!!

An experience to live. Josep Ramon at the tables and his wife in the kitchen will make you feel at home but with the luck of not having to cook.
If you want to eat very well-prepared local products, try and drink wines and all at affordable prices, don't miss this restaurant.

Cal Purgat is a restaurant located in la Geltrú neighborhood, the old town, in Vilanova i la Geltrú, a coastal town 50km far from Barcelona. It is a small restaurant, where we came to have lunch and it was amazing! Firstly, owners give us all wine bottles, which are opened in this moment to taste and you can choose, what do you prefer! Wonderful idea! After, we shared some first dishes like a Basque salad, foie, cured ham, artichoke with cured ham and xató (a local salad) with cod and anchovies. All fantastic. Also, a second dish we shared xuletón (ribeye steak) also fantastic. At the end we are 5 friends and we could taste 6 different wines, the last a sweet one. Fantastic also. As dessert I choose bread, chocolate, oil and salt (a typical Catalan dessert). The owners, a couple, were excellent, very friendly. Really, one of the best places in Vilanova far from the coast. A hidden gem!!!

My wife and I were looking for a place to have supper and decided to try Cal Purgat based on the significant amount of excellent reviews. Very glad we did! Yes, it is a small place, but cozy and clean...make sure you make a reservation ahead of time!
Let me encourage you to allow Ramon guide you through this wonderful dining experience, he will take care of you. I personally appreciated the old-fashioned approach...no fancy QR codes here, a simple chalk board presented to guests, listing all of the different food available that night. While eating some delicious “treats”, Ramon patiently addressed any questions we had; he also gave us the opportunity to taste several wines to ensure we chose the perfect wine combination for our food selections. Once you have finished your appetizers (artichokes are out of this world) and your entrees, please settle for the simple ‘Pa amb Xocolata’ dessert, it’s crazy delicious!
It was such a delight to see how much pride Ramon has towards ensuring all of his guests enjoy the dining experience at Cal Purgat, don’t miss out!!

Years ago I wanted to return to this well-known and endearing restaurant, the first time left me very good taste in the mouth and its owners treated us and gave us dinner with the best quality in the market and served to the point and moment.
I moved all this to my last visit a few days ago, in which I was lucky, for a table that was cancelled 3 times and I was very fortunate to taste good product again, in the best situation of the Geltrú and without hurry.
Congratulations again on offering this service to citizens. I'll repeat again very soon.

Already a few weeks ago we had dinner in this small and exceptional restaurant after reservation (necessary because it is small and beloved). We we're an hour to early, but that was no problem for Ramón, the owner of the restaurant (together with his wife of course 😉) . Four hours after we arrived we finally left (and that wasn't a minute to long 😀) after very good wines (which we choose after a small tasting in the beginning of the evening), excellent food (including a 1.4 KG t-bonesteak for two persons!) and loads of different liquors to finish with.
Thank you for giving us such a beautiful and tasteful evening! 😘

Beautiful area. We were very well received and what can we say about the wine tasting at your discretion before choosing... the same for the brandy as a digestif. A great rib of beef, a very nice musical atmosphere, we all enjoyed ourselves and will come back without hesitation. You can go there with your eyes closed!

Run by a family this restaurant is a unique piece of art!!
They choose and serve only the very best of everything.
they would give you like 6-8 bottles of wine to try for free and only if you like one of them, you can buy a bottle. Usually after such tastings we dont buy a bottle, maybe 1-2 glasses. Overall this restaurant is absolutely AMAZING. Numero 1 in Vilanova 100%

We booked in person for dinner for Friday two days in advance and arrived on time. The man that booked us in, totally denied taking the booking and made us feel like liars. It was clear he gave our table away to someone else without the courtesy of letting us know.

What an incredible place! 5-star in all aspects, starting from a warm welcome, great selection of wines and food you will never forget. I have been visiting Vilanova for many years now and still have not found a better restaurant.

Everything is very good, but especially the meat. Ramon is a specialist in explaining the dishes to you. I recommend trying the xato salad. It’s my favorite restaurant in Vilanova I la Geltrú. I had the opportunity to try their steak, and it was simply delicious. It’s a comfortable restaurant, but it’s important to reserve in advance because it’s usually very crowded.
