Happened across this lovely place. Roast beef just like mum's, was absolutely delicious. Lovely staff, quick service although I am sure it would not be so quick in the summer when it must get very busy.

We ate here after a morning visit to the local National Trust-owned Scotney Castle. The food was really excellent and the welcome very warm. We will definitely visit again and the only reason I didn't give this pub five stars is because only one beer was available. Definitely worth a visit.

Our welcome to the Chequers was fantastic. We had never been there before so did not know what to expect. The staff couldn't do enough to make us feel at home. The food was excellent and the service was second to none. There are many plaques and writings on the walls with funny anecdotes and phrases

We booked for Sunday lunch, 8 people and 3 ( large) dogs and we were seated in the bar area, which was perfect. The dogs were given water and dog treats. The staff, service and food, I can only say was great. The food is reasonably priced, good portion sizes, home cooked and hot! Thankyou to the Chequers for a... More

What a lovely place! Beautifully decorated for Christmas; roaring log fires and twinkly lights everywhere. Lovely staff who had no problem holding our table because half of our party were delayed by traffic. Freshly cooked food, lots of choice, including for veggies, and generous portions. Will definitely begoing back,

We stumbled upon this pub for a meal just in time (as they stop serving food at 9pm). The staff were very friendly, food was great with all the pub classics plus vegetarian options, and finally the old fireplace & Christmas decorations makes a great atmosphere. We sat in the bar area, but it looked like there was a restaurant... More

We visited here last week by chance travelling from Hasting back to London...and how pleased were we. The service was great a really nice village pub with hearty home cooking. Minted lamb shepherds pie was huge and extremely tasty and my husband said his stake & kidney suet pudding was the best he's had. Definitely worth a try if your... More
