We found this place by chance and since we did we have only been going there for dinner. The food is excellent! You can order the same dish in four different variants: Thai spicy, moderately spicy, a bit spicy and not spicy at all, so people who do not like or cannot take spicy food can still enjoy Baan Ya Jai cuisine. the restaurant is small and very popular (and rightly so), thus, in the evenings there is sometimes a queue and a waiting list. It is not a problem, however, as one can put his/her name on the list and go to the bar just round the corner to have a beer while waiting asking the waitress to call when his/her turn comes. The waiting time was around 20-30 minutes.
All the dishes that we tried in Baan Ya Jai were excellent! And their coconut ice-cream with mango is a must for the dessert. Thank you Baan Ya Jai for the wonderful culinary experience and hospitality!

If you are reading this. Stop what you are doing. Go and write your name on the guest list at the front of the restaurant and then come back to finish reading this post.
We went for dinner and had to wait about 30 mins. Initially were bit reluctant to wait however once we read the menu we thought let’s give it a try. The menu is very different to everything else we saw on the island. It was very nice and easy to read and actually had facts about the chef as well as the food and the fact that you will be waiting for your food as it’s fresh. Honesty is the best policy.
As your sitting for your turn you will be constantly updated by the lovely host who is very pleasant.
She even brought us complimentary water as we were waiting.
Once sited we were welcomed by the super nice waitresses and ordered our food.
The food really needs it’s own separate feedback but I will continue.
We got the vegetable dumpling as a starter and it was simply
Yum.
Mains were pad Thai, rice, green curry, sweet n sour chicken, steamed vegetables (don’t judge. We were hungry) hahah. The only way I can tell you how good the food was is by saying all our plates were clean when they went back.
Desert was mango, sticky rice and coconut ice cream. And although we were super full we made room for this amazing dessert.
To top of what was an amazing dinner experience we sent compliment to the chef who personally came up to thank us for visiting. We were not expecting that what so ever as the restaurant still had people in it and the kitchen still running.
The chef is so humble, and honest and her experience in Switzerland really sets her restaurant apart from the rest.

The most amazing pad Thai we’ve had in all of Thailand so far. Delicious food with really great staff & service. There were queues for a table the first two nights we tried to go in & decided to wait half an hour on the third night because it was clearly very popular & I am so glad we did as it was excellent prices for a very tasty & enjoyable meal.

Great place. Are with my wife there and was amazed by the quality of the food. The staff were attentive and friendly. We had a starter each and a main and the whole bill came to 800 bht. We will be back. We stayed in a resort up the road 5* and the food here rivals the hotel. Great little gem 👍🏻

We have been lucky enough to have had good food out here but this is definitely the tops!!!
A great choice on the menu and all freshly cooked with super fresh ingredients. You can choose your spice heat for every dish and if you choose too hot, they will take it away and cook a fresh milder version.
If you are Gluten Free allergy, they have great knowledge and the Chef will speak to you personally, to check your requirements.
The service was sublime and the bill a delight. A “Must do” in our experience. We are gonna return before we go.

Came here on our first night after reading the wonderful reviews online. It is just slightly off the road but they have a sign at the road so it is not hard to miss. The restaurant was quite full but they also have an upstairs area, which is air conditioned, and we got a table up there. We ordered the massaman curry, noodles with pork and the morning glory. All were served very quickly and we had great service from the two waitresses who were working that area. Highly recommend!

The nicest restaurant we found in Chaweng. Traditional food on a scale from not spicy to Thai spicy-the customer can always choose. We have been there three times during two stays here and can really recommend it. Two floors with tables and nice waiters caring for you. BTW: You can even bring your own own wine-a service is only charged for the serving.

Our hotel staff recommended this place to us as one of their top 5 picks for Thai food in Samui! The staff here are a few of the nicest people who you will ever meet, they are willing to accommodate any requests that you have and make sure that you truly enjoy your meal. They kept telling us to just let them know if something wasn’t to our liking, and they would change it/ make it again. We got Masaman curry with Tofu and a mango salad - they were both delicious! Definitely recommend this place if you want some yummy Thai food in a simple setting!

Among the best Thai food we had and the price was good too. Every dish served was a signature dish. The first day we mentioned not so spicy and it was very low on spice, the best is to order Thai spice and you will get authentic Thai food. Massaman Curry is great, my daughter liked the Pad Thai and ordered it again the next day. I strongly recommend restaurant as we came twice during our 5 day stay.Careful with the Tom Yum soup bowl, its too large to handle.

We had absolutely gorgeous food
My husband and son had very hot Thai spice food however I don’t like any spice at all and they ere able to cater for us equally We has spring rolls not spicy chicken panda to start Then I had sweet and sour chicken with no spice but very tasty then the boys had Tom Yam Goong Thai spice and Thai Green curryThai spice I do t think they actually did it as hot as they could but the boys really enjoyed it. Lovely staff. Very good service Small restaurant downstairs but they have an upstairs Excellent value for money To finish off we had mango and sticky rice Gorgeous.

Sorry but perhaps the chef had a day off?
Because I’m really not sure how this restaurant is the 3rd best on the island - that’s me not trying to be rude here but I’m in shock. I have had better quality food and wine at places which charge less then half what we paid.
Street food I have had here has tasted better then my dish today.
No tableware and garden furniture is what this place offers
Food was very poor quality - I actually left more then half
The wine was awful
We waiting for plates, cutlery and tissues after we started eating.

Sorry that we did let you down during our visit to our restaurant.
We've looked at our surveillance camera records and our service was not at our usual high standard at this occasion. We did take a note and make some changes in this area.
We are a mid range restaurant, and our prices and ambience is mid range - this is our market. Our prices reflect our costs and the quality of the ingredients we buy. Sure you can eat street food cheaper, but you'll be sitting without air conditioning on a plastic chair, if sitting at all.
Our selection of wine is very simple - only house white and red wine fitting within our price range. Wine connoisseurs can bring any wine that they like BYO and pay corkage fee. Wine is very expensive in Thailand due to duties and excises, and the only way to drink it cheaper is to buy it from 7-11 and drink it on the stairs outside.
In regards of our food we offer free replacement or no pay if you don't like what you eat, but when I talked to you I got an impression that everything is OK. Our wait staff raises an issue with the kitchen if someone leaves their dish half full, but after looking at the surveillance records only a small fraction was returned.
Sorry again to let you down. If you are still in Samui, please come and eat your dish again for free (or any replacement dish), or get a refund, no questions asked.

Guys....if I could give 10 stars I would. The food is absolutely incredible, I’d go as far to say it was one of the best restaurant meals I’ve EVER had. Try the green curry soup, it was to die for. The staff are absolutely brilliant and we were well looked after throughout. If you are staying around Chaweng Beach I cannot recommend this place enough if you want authentic, tasty, wholesome Thai food. An absolute pleasure to eat there. Compliments to the chef 👨‍🍳

Expectations were high based on many reviews, but also because reservation was required two days upfront. Menu looked impressive but average prices are 30% higher compared with other “ high rated” restaurants. Food was ok but not really the high class as expected. Service was little chaotic, forgot to bring the second round drinks, however the were put on the bill while never served. Sorry for me overrated and will not return for a second visit.

We are sorry to hear you didn't have a good experience with us. We apologise for the mess with the drink orders, some of our serving staff are new and still learning. We have discussed your feedback and experience with them in order to improve their service.
In regards to our prices, they are based on our costs and not on the restaurant rating. We are a mid range restaurant and our prices are on par or below similar mid range restaurants. The prices barely moved in the last 4 years, which is not sustainable for very long tame taking into account the current levels of food price inflation.
Sorry again for the negative experience and we'll be delighted to see you again to show or usual level of service to you.

Fantastic Thai food!! And outstanding service!!
My wife and I have been in Thailand for two weeks now, enjoying Thai food. By far this restaurant, the staff and the chef, have been our top experience. From asking what we liked in Thai food, to explaning how the dishes are made and the ingredients used, this food was exceptional.
Just by chance the restaurant was recommended to us by a couple we bumper into on our first day in Koh Samui. We're here for 5 days and will defo be back. Highly, highly, highly recommend.

This is one of the best restaurants I tried in Koh Samui. The food is good, the ambience is good but the service... It was VERY good. The waitresses were super nice and helpful when we asked about the food and it's ingredients.
I definitely recommend a visit!
