Great venue, food a bit expensive but nice, went a few times then was served by the rudest woman ever who turned out to be the owner, found out since she is k own for this. Many good places in this area don't need to deal with rude people.

It's opposite the parking lot for the Karangahake Gorge walking (and cycle) track, on SH 2. We arrived for a late lunch and were delighted with the spinach and feta filo, the coffee and the shared piece of cake. The gardens are beautiful in their own special way with lots of interesting carvings, a petrified tree and a huge lump... More

Arrived at 9.05 to be rudely told when we walked in that they wouldn't be open for another 15mins. No offer to sit down and wait so we promptly left for the L&P Cafe in Paeroa where we had a delicious breakfast and served by very friendly staff. Disappointed Talisman Cafe, we've been coming for years on our way home... More

Totally non friendly, non welcoming, could not be bothered staff. We waited ages!! We were a group of 4, spending allot of money. Asked for water, which we never got and could not be bothered trying to ask for again. Entrees were only just average. Asked what the fish of the day came with, were told Chips and salad. But... A delightful cafe for a rest on your journey and to refresh your body and soul before and after walking up the river and mountain paths of Karangahake. The owner has taken old teak timbers from a railway bridge and spent the past two years creating over 200 hand carved panels which are set along the perimeter as a fence... More

But sadly let down by very surly and uninviting welcome which was a bit of a disappointment as the food looked really good. But of a shame as all it would have taken was a bit of eye contact a smile and a - be with you in a moment. We were 5 seconds away from walking out

We've been here several times in the past and really enjoyed the place. Could not believe the attitude of the staff this time. It was not busy but we waited and waited and waited at the counter to be served while someone cut cake on a bench beside the till and an older woman did something with the coffee machine... More

Enhances the magic of an already magical place. Good coffee with inspiring environment which is creatively decorated. Detailed wood carvings and a little shop for gifts for home

The lady (manager possibly) was really rude, and the food was absolutely overpriced. After we had our coffee and food for just several minutes, the lady even asked us to LEAVE the cafe, because some of us got "take away" food. Ridiculous. Never come back again!
