The Tilapia hotel is a great place to have lunch or dinner. It sits on the shore of Lake Victoria and has awesome views. Contrary to other more luxury restaurants in Mwanza, it has a very cosy and warm feeling to it. The food is excellent and the staff very friendly. Highly recommended.

The view at Talapia is great, and the food is good, while unexceptional. I would recommend the coconut chicken with rice. Fabulous every time.

Poor client relationship, "straight face" staff everywhere from reception, restaurant even grounds men. Had planned for a 3days stay but opted out due to poor quality of room, right above reception at the gate, opposite the kitchen. The room wasn't sound proof, you can imagine all the noise coming in from all ends including a nearby disco. Improve on your... More

Last night, December 17th, being in Mwanza to get my car repaired, I had dinner on my own at the Tilapia Restaurant where l have been eating already several times. I like the place for its warm atmosphere and the, in general, good food and service. For a Saturday night there were only about 15 people in the restaurant itself... More

If you're looking for a place in the city that is right on the water and with a beautiful view, both day and night, this is the place to go. Spacious rooms, well kept gardens, a selection of kitchens (try the Tapanyaki!) and other amenities, all withing a few strides.

I must say I have visited and stayed at Tilapia hotel about 5 years ago, three times, actually. I have always found this place not value for money at all as far as the way their rooms are set and the quality of the experience i got the other times so this time I decided to spend my night elsewhere... Food was excellent, excellent location .service is a bit slow but bearable as the view is too good.if you are paying by card they charge 5% extra .if paying by dollars the rate Is very bad.Best carry Shillings that way you pay less and may even give a tip. Best dish was the Tilapia fish & samosa starters.

I live in Tanzania (just outside of Mwanza)...and for Tanzania, the restaurant at Tilapia is actually fairly good. I consistently order the chicken tikka masala...probably once a week. The tilapia is always good (as the name would imply). The prices are not necessarily cheap but they are fair. The bar has the typical local Tanzanian beers plus a few others... More
