We stayed at La Chaine d'Or for a single night en route to our channel crossing at Calais. We were a little late from a long drive but just made it in time for a sumptuous dinner. Our two young daughters (6 and 4) were made welcome, despite the formal atmosphere of the dining room. The service was generally good.... More

We have stayed and dined at La Chaine d'or regularly over many years and enjoyed excellent food, great wine and attentive service on each occasion. The location of the hotel and restaurant on the banks of the Seine is romantic and relaxing. Whenever we travel to France from Australia we always make it a priority to come to Normandy and... More

Have walked past this hotel on several occasions but this time decided to let the price not put us off. How glad we were Our dinner sitting overlooking the river was a delight. Our waitress , who I think was the owner, was very helpful with the menu and when the food arrived it was everything a French meal should... More

The third time I have stayed at La Chaine D'or and I loved it as much as ever. The service and attention from the staff and owner Madame Bicot is second to none. We came for my mum's 80th birthday and they could not have made it more memorable, creating a special menu and birthday cake and surprise. The food... More

We went there after visiting Guillaume de Normandie's Château-Gaillard, the restaurant is in the town below, sitting by the Seine river: it matches the mood. The service is quite posh, traditional (no price on the lady menu) I'd say - but, once again, it fits the place. Nonetheless, the food is exquisite and generously served: good meat well prepared; vegetables... More

Quite a quiet restaurant (only 4 tables in use the day we visited), but the service and food were both very good. Had a good view of the Seine from our table.

Highly over-priced, pretentious food, which did not match the price in any way. Very snooty management.

We dined here around 2 years ago and it was so good we decided we'd return there one day. And that what we did on route to the Loire this last May. Arrived one sunny evening and had a lovely window table overlooking the river Seine. The waiter speaks very good english and didn't hesitate to advise us on the... More

We were taken here for lunch on our way to Giverney. A nice spot by the river but you do get a lot of walkers on the towpath gazing in the windows. Service is very formal but friendly, the food was all good and well presented but at €160 for two, including wine, this falls into the special occasion category... More

We purposely stopped here in route to Honfleur, and am so glad we chose this restaurant. It lived up to all the previous review for us. This, was by far our most relaxing and enjoyable meal in all the places we stopped on our self drive of France. If you have the time to really enjoy a meal, this is... More

Description
La Chaîne d’Or gets her name from the history of the 18th century, when the house was considered as a toll house. A large chain was crossing the Seine river between the rives and the island. Each boat that wanted to cross the river from La Havre to Paris had to pay a toll. The king was getting so much money from this toll, that people were telling that it was a “golden chain”. La Chaîne d’Or has been successively an auberge, an hotel, and a coffee shop, just in front of the church, where men were meeting while their wifes were in the church. After world war 2nd, the Boirel family proposed a traditional cuisine, which was very appreciated from the local guests. Monsieur Boutineau went on with this tradition. Several years later, Monsieur et Madame Foucault, as new owners, decided to propose a gastronomic restaurant and with the help of the Chef, Monsieur Chevalliez, they obtained a Star from the famous Michelin Guide. When the chef left to buy his own restaurant, Madame Foucault sold la Chaîne d’Or which had a difficult time for a while.Today, Stephanie and Olivier Bicot, their team and the Chef Philippe Lallier are very proud to welcome you and to share their passion for the French gastronomy.
