We travelled from Inverness for the day to go for a walk at the steps - which was lovely. On the way back we decided to stop here for lunch, and I'm so glad that we did! This place is so quirky and we sat...More

As soon as you enter Whaligoe Cafe you immediately realise this is like no other dining experience. Cliff sea views, eclectic art work, a cookery book library, an open kitchen door and a sense of being home. A big thankyou to Karen and John for...More

What a lovely review, thanks so much, it's really appreciated. When I set up the restaurant, my aim was to create somewhere that I would want to go myself, with food that invited (and sometimes challenged). The cookbook was a huge achievement for us and...More

This small restaurant is a hidden gem of the Highlands. After the short walk of the steps we enjoyed the incredible sharing platters that cafe had to offer. The owner and chef was so friendly and offered to cook us food that wasn't on the...More

What a wonderful find. This little place, perched high on an unexpected cliff is on the strenuous walking route down to Whaligoe, an old herring station. Karen and John have been running this cafe for 7 years and Karen, a trained chef, produces home made...More

An amazing, friendly place to eat fantastic food with a view that is out of this world. Garlic Hearth Bread and delicious smoked salmon salad as a reward for the climb back up the equally impressive cliff side steps - well worth a visit, check...More

So glad that you enjoyed the food, we know we can be quite hard to find (long story there), but really appreciate everyone who makes the effort to find us. Thanks again, K

We spotted the Whaligoe steps and thought we do them on our trip back south. We only found the cafe when we got there. Super food and drinks obviously cooked and made with passion, including a timer for the loose tea. I had rose and...More

The best food I have ever eaten. The chef has a touch of magic and I would go a long way out of my way to eat here again. If you visit, try something you've never had before and as many dishes or different desserts...More

Karen has made a destination cafe and restaurant. The food is all homemade and the menu is exciting! I had spiced lamb hummous with hearth bread. Delicious. My daughter had home made gnocchi accompanied with olives and a tomato dip. After our trip down the...More

Found this by accident - poorly advertised at the top of Whaligoe Steps. Very quirky, excellent food freshly prepared so sometimes some items not available. Carpark for the steps is some distance away and limited. Booking is suggested as advisable.
