Really great food, waiter was new and a bit nervous, but he was very polite and quick with his service. Coffee was fast and excellent. Nice and hot! Asked for soft poached eggs and they were perfect! Thanks Fratelli for a great breakfast.

Absolutely delicious. Not too big, flavours were lovely with feta and lime and pomegranate seeds on sour dough. Where is everyone. Honestly haven't had such a nice avo on toast for a while.

I have stopped going to the fancy places with the fancy prices and focused back on value . If you want Big serves like scrambled eggs with two huge hunks of sour dough and a cappuccino with silky milk with lots of froth then this is the place . George and Mrs George just keep churning out consistency , with... More

Three of us ate lunch at Fratelli. Prices are affordable with mains for less than $20 and some specials for $15. I chose the chicken and mushroom risotto, which was supped to be a $15 special, so I was annoyed to find (too late!) that the docket showed I'd been charged $17. Flavoiurs were good but there was a lot... More

Was a very cold morning so the restaurant needed a bit more heat. Having said that the service was warm and friendly. The food was great, had Spanish styled eggs and great coffee. They do need more heaters!

Efficient service in a relaxed atmosphere, great breakfast and especially good coffee. The owner George is very helpful, nothing is too much trouble.

I ordered a coffee and as I handed the girl my money, she started at me with 'Just a bit of advice, if you want to achieve this with your make-up, you really should do this' and started giving me an unwanted make-up lesson in the cafe! I wanted a latte not bloody advice from a cashier on how I... More

Came in for lunch at about 1.30 and we were the only people besides tables finishing up. We had our drinks order taken and the the meal order was not far behind. It then took over 30 minutes for the lunch to arrive. That would be OK if it tasted nice. The steak tasted as though it might have been... More

Staying in South Melbourne

Neighbourhood Profile
South Melbourne
South Melbourne hosts the city’s oldest continuous market, founded in 1867. Rows of neatly arranged fruit, vegetables and flowers splash yellows, greens and reds along the entire perimeter, where the whole neighbourhood gathers for Saturday feasts. Inside the hall, shoppers hover over the mouth-watering displays of delicatessens and specialty food shops. Further in, a bazaar full of giftware, clothing, and kitchen utensils completes the scene. Take a break to walk the wide and shady streets and stroll along the Victorian-era heritage terrace houses. But return to the market in time for some paella, simmering in three large frypans on the footpath and served straight onto your plate.
