Widely known as one of the top restaurants on the island, this hilltop oasis did not fail to impress. We were picked up from our West End hotel by Sherman who chatted with us during the drive to and from this newer boutique hotel perched...high above the Roatan tree canopy with a gorgeous sea view. Here we were met by Carlos who arranged arrival drinks (martinis made with freshly crushed local watermelon) and a tour of the property while we watched the sun set over the aqua sea. A few drinks in we were escorted to our table on the patio surrounded by the sounds of nature and the gorgeously lit grounds. We chose the 5 item chefs tasting menu which was an absolute delight. Opting for a seafood focused dinner we started with a silky cauliflower soup, followed by the addition of the fried ceviche from the a-la-carte menu which we simply could not skip over ordering. Definitely try this, it was unique and a delicious departure from a traditional ceviche that comes out more like a lightly breaded sphere filled with fresh fish and tangy vegetables. Next was a cassava causa loaded with avocado and topped with octopus served with a stellar beetroot purée. Next, a large serving of jumbo prawns coated with a crispy oatmeal crust over a blackberry dipping sauce. Following that was the most well cooked and melt in your mouth tender fresh-caught sea bass. Finishing up the fish course was local lobster in a delicate cream sauce with a spear of fried cassava. To end an already divine meal, we were served a trio of desserts including flan, crème brûlée, and a molten chocolate lava cake. The night we visited, the sous chef was in charge and ran her kitchen like a well-oiled-machine. She came out table-side with every course and, using Carlos as a translator, provided details on all the dishes. In small breaks between courses we were able to stop by the open-air kitchen and watch the kitchen team preparing our meals and explaining various questions with big smiles and clearly showed a love for their art of cooking. By far, this was the best meal we had on the island. It’s certainly a splurge as the 5 item tasting menu is US$90 per person but we’ll worth it to spend a night above the trees in a botanic garden like setting. Thank you to Carlos, Sherman, and the full kitchen staff for an unforgettable experience in this island paradise.More

My husband and I had a lovely outdoor dinner overlooking the bay. I enjoyed my snapper, and he had a nice burger. The food was among the best meals we had in Roatan.

Good food but they managed to inflate our bill to almost 200 percent. We chose from the menu sime fish fillet and the waiter offered and alternative sauce out of the menu. When the bill comes it turns out it is almost double the price....They also brought a dessert we did not order and had to pay for.More

We spent two weeks in Roatan and Utila and our dinners at Azul were by far some of the best. The service was excellent and the food was outstanding. We had conch ceviche and lobster. Chef Orozco is the best on the island and is...happy to share some of his island food secrets with you. The atmosphere is a blast too. If you are lucky the flock of scarlet macaws will be in the area to serenade you as you dine. I would recommend Azul without hesitation. Because it is small and so highly rated, I do recommend making reservations well in advance.More

My father stays on the island for weeks at a time. He made a reservation, granted it’s the low season, and the wait staff was in unprepared. You make it through WhatsApp. My wife had an Old Fashioned cocktail. The bar tender added soda to...the drink. Clearly it was not an old fashion. Ordered a bottle of wine. The server opened up the bottle to bring it to us and tried to pass it off to us. It was not what we ordered. He then argued with us about it. The server tried to tell us Austin Hope Pinot Noir Santa Maria are three different bottles. He brought out a Cabernet instead. The finality of it all. The whole snapper fried was way over done and inedible. The grilled snapper (three were ordered) was terrible. Each plate had three snapper filets. One was the snapper you typically get. The other two was not. It looked like pork but after talking to my fishing guide the next day he told me it’s an inedible type of snapper. When you cook it it gets very tough and grisly. When we complained the chef brought out the right fish. You should NOT need a steak knife to cut through snapper. Forget this restaurant and go somewhere else. The two pictures I have attached are the fish filets we COULD NOT eat.More

This restaurant is an experience. The ambience, the service, the food were all EXCELLENT. We were picked up at our hotel and brought to what I considered an experience, not just a dinner. On our first visit the table was adorned with flowers and a...surname plate on the outdoor balcony that seemed as though we were seated in the tree tops....views of the hills, the ocean and a sunset that was replaced by elegant hanging lamps and a sparkling display of small lights... Our group of 4 chose the chef's tasting menu with pairings. One of our group was a vegetarian and chef didn't miss a beat. OUTSTANDING. Chef Orozco is amazing. Friendly, passionate and always smiling!! So many great plates I can't describe them all, but the many flavors and the inventiveness of the presentations and originality was unbelievable. Each course the chef came and explained what he had done... the curry was the best I have ever had. Each plate wowed... How good was it? Well, we returned a few nights later and did it all over again, EXCEPT, Chef Orozco did a completely new menu....he recalled how much we liked the curry dish and did another...with lobster in a hot curry, paired with champagne... incredible...BUT...he followed with a delicious tenderloin in a red wine, espresso and baileys reduction (he warned it was a big taste!!!)... it was paired with a Bordeaux and a chilled glass of his homemade baileys...outrageously good!! There were so many more surprises but I can't ruin anyone's dinner by giving them away. We thoroughly enjoyed this restaurant and openly recommended it during our 11 day stay on Roatan. It was a very nice touch on our second visit that they greeted us upon arrival with umbrellas (as it was sprinkling) for the short walk to our seating. Thank you so much to the Team at Azul and to Chef Orozco. I HIGHLY recommend you don't miss this experience if you go to Roatan. It was a highlight(s) of our trip!!More

We’ve dined here a few times and everytime it has always been wonderful. This visit they reserved us on the open air lower deck which has spectacular views of all the property as well as the ocean and sunset, most delightful were the macaw birds...flying freely in the area! The service is professional and very personalized, the food is delicious and they always seem to surprise us with something extra! no matter how busy they are the chef finds time to make a visit to our table. We highly reccommend Azul! Call ahead to reserve they get pretty full!More
