Newly refurbished and refreshed and yet The Plough still retains its character and appeal, lots of locals drinking in the bar. The restaurant was busy, the menu is good. The staff were friendly. When we went on Saturday evening the price was £13 for 2 courses, hardly the 'London prices' referred to by some reviewers. It is a village pub... More

Okay, positives. The beer was okay. A couple of the staff were friendly. But ale choice halved/limited and main stream. Harvest pale, Timmy Taylors and Doombar. Real ale fans, this isn't for you given the completion nearby. Okay, reality. The lovely Snug was cold and dark - refused to light the fire, surely the point of a snug? Logs are... More

Called in for a quick pint with an old friend. Inside it was warm and welcoming with an open fire. There was a reasonable range of real ales and I will call in again.

You can instantly tell the new owners think they are running a restaurant and not a pub, the food is overpriced and the hospitality is cold at best, luckily they have a few of the old staff who made the place what it was still working there! Won't be going back in a hurry!

The atmosphere is to posh, it is traditional English pub but are now trying to make it up market and driving customers away! The menu is too expensive and upmarket for what customers are used to! The pub runs on regulars and there are none left! Why try and change something which doesn't need changing?!

the new owners have ruined the village pub nature of the plough if you want to just go for a drink not a meal you will get treated as if you just spat on there mothers grave p.s the food is defiantly not worth the london prises they are charging

Having been disappointed in the past we decided to give The Plough a try on opening night of its new ownership and so glad we did. The pub is in a beautiful setting by the canal and part of the lovely village of Hickling. The pub has had a really good tidy up but has lost none of its original... More

After a 3 mile walk on the Grantham Canal we had a Sunday lunch at The Plough. The food was tasty and well prepared and service was fairly smart. What stood out was the welcome - we were fitted in without a formal booking. Good range of draft bitters inc. St Austell Tribute.

I view this pub as our local, it's free and easy, not pretentious, relaxed and cosy and we come here a lot whether it's with friends, as a family or just the two of us for a bite to eat. We've been here for birthdays, Christmas (on boxing day) and other celebrations! The food is fabulous, homemade and very tasty... More

We haven't been to this pub for a good couple of years but popped in today after a drive out. The pub has been decorated since we were last there and the restaurant was much brighter and fresher. My husband ordered a 'steakwich' and I had a Stilton and red onion confit salad - when they arrived we were amazed... More
