where to stay in Puerto Rico

I don't know Puerto Rico at all. Our family of 4 all who are adults would like to stay somewhere modest that would provide food but other than that leaves its guests pretty much to themselves. We would like to somewhere where we would could walk and enjoy the outdoors: beaches, nature preserves, special attractions of the island. Having a car is fine. We are not lovers of luxury, but a clean and attractive place to stay is important. Any ideas?

We booked for December at Luquillo Sunrise Beach Inn, it has everything that you request.

It sounds like the east side of the island is your best bet. El Conquistador and Rio Mar are the most popular resorts in that area.

As far as food, few hotels do offer breakfast. However, other meals and/or foods are not included on the price.

All hotels in PR leave their guests to themselves. You will be free to explore at your leisure.
