There's tons of stuff to do not far from Santa Ana, including Zoo Ave and The Butterfly Farm. You can also check the various museums in San Jose to see if they have any kind of children's programs during that time.

You can also do a coffee tour, some rafting and a trip to Braulio Carrillo National Park and a ride on the aerial tram would be great.

If you don't have a car, you can take a taxi or use an organized tour. Here is a big list - maybe you can find something there: anywherecostarica.com/destinations/…tours

Other than that -- maybe head for the nearest school to see what they have going on and your child may be able to participate (or at least watch). This is also a good way to make acquaintances with other parents who will have better suggestions about things to do and might even invite you to their home.

Right in the Santa Ana vicinity, there's a good little serpentarium/snake and other animal collection on the old road between Santa Ana and Escazu.

Nearby, just beyond Ciudad Colon, there's a great open air park, ponds, trails and play areas at the University for Peace.

Over in Escazu, the folks at Adventures Under the Sun (www.adventuresunderthesun.com/adventure-kids/) run a weeklong kids day camp to coincide with the local July school vacation. These are great and we always send our son... Looks like it's falling July 15-19 this time.
