Olhosd'agua vs Alvor

Myself and hubby have been to Alvor the last 2 years. We love the quaint feeling of the place, the restaurants are cheap and excellent quality. We love the beach too, very quiet.

We are looking at going back in June again but someone told me about Olhosd'agua.

Can anyone tell me how they compare? I don't want to be disappointed if we choose somewhere different.

Thanks

Visited both areas a number of times. Olhos is much closer in terms of transfer from Faro.

Beaches - To visit a bigger stretch of beach (Falesia or Maria Luisa), be prepared to walk but they are as lovely as Alvor. In general, be prepared for a good walk each day.

Restaurants- lovely and we like that they are by the beach (Olhos beach)and reasonably priced. Nice atmosphere around beach area.

Good choice of self catering apartments and hotels further up the hill. I am biased towards Olhos!

For the last ten years or so we have been going to Alvor two or three times a year.Last year for the first time we went to Olhos and returned for two weeks this year end of Feb.

The resort is a lot smaller than Alvor but for us has many similarities. There are not as many visitors about but still has a lovely vibe.

There is a wide choice of restaurants to choose from, with some offering good value tourist menu deals to the more expensive.

For us the resort has a more Portuguese feel about it than Alvor which to my mind has become overrun with

Sorry ,lost above thread, but as i said Alvor has too many '''Irish'' themed pubs ,but still love the place.

Olhos is a little more hilly and there is no boardwalk. The beaches locally are fantastic and you can walk in one direction to Albeufeira and the other to Vilamoura.

We go back next Feb and probably again later in 2018.

We were Alvor fans for many years but then discovered Olhas and we are converted. Not as pretty as Alvor but the place has a lovely laid back friendly atmosphere and the people are lovely. A good choice of restaurants and apartments around too. If you think Alvor is cheap try some of the out of the way restaurants in Olhas, 8 euros for 3 courses plus wine and a port, a no brainer and good too. The Falasia Beach is a walk to die for and we do this every single morning. You can walk to nearby Vilamoura along this beach and make a day of it. I agree with the other post in that Alvor is getting a buit commercialised. Try Olhas and I don't think it will disappoint.

We have never stayed in Alvor, but for many years we holidayed in the Sesmarias area (Vale de Parra) which we absolutely loved.

We started looking for our own holiday retreat in the Algarve about three years ago and we fell in love with Olhos de Agua. It is busier than the Vale de Parra area, and everything is more central. It has a lovely vibe to it. During the summer months, there are plenty of people about, but it does not get overrun with visitors like some of the neighbouring resorts. The month of June is a lovely time to visit.

There is plenty of nice accommodation in Olhos, from villas and apartments, to hotel based holidays. There are about forty restaurants and bars. Some are at the top of the village on the Main Street and just off it. This area is mostly flat. The roads down to the town beach are hilly, but the main road going down (Rua 25 Abril) is perfectly doable for me (and I am by no means young and athletic). This road has restaurants and bars all along, as well as the area at the top, and the little square and promenade down by the beach.

Like the others have said, there is more than enough choice of places to eat and drink, and there is something to suit every pocket and taste. Some good happy hour prices and 3 course daily menus.

There are several beaches. The main beach is only quite small, but nevertheless it is a lovely place to visit. There are several other beaches within easy walking distance including the stunning beach at Falesia which stretches right to Vilamoura.

Olhos is also ideally placed, as it lies between Albufeira and Vilamoura. It is relatively inexpensive to visit either of these by local bus or taxi, or for those who are energetic (not me) both are walkable.

One of our favourite restaurants in Alvor is Casa d;avo Maria, which is on the road out of the village towards Alvor airport. As I recall it was only 7.50 euros for a full lunch with wine and it was delicious. They have a simple lunch menu with a meat dish or a fish dish. These are often authentic Portuguese dishes that you won't find in the other restaurants.

Personally I don't think Olhos D'agua comes with an a*s's roar of Alvor but each to their own..
