Hi there, visiting in October an looking for ideas for eating out as never visited before. Like nice food not fussy eaters but looking for good prices as on tight budget. Stayed In Alvor previously and enjoy small places. Also any suggestions for good sangria. Staying in Oceanus Apartments so not sure if near eating places.

Plenty of eating places nearby. The restaurants into the village by the beach are all good but probably not the cheapest around. The ones up on the main right right behind your apartments are a little cheaper but for very best value you should walk towards Albufeira for about ten minutes (past the big supermarket) and you reach a stretch of restaurants which offer very good value tourist menus for around ten euro for three courses plus couvert and drinks. These would be Three Maria's and a few others.

If you fancy a change from Portuguese then there is also San Martino Italian behind your apartments which offers good value pizza and pasta and then any one of the three Indians and the new Thai. The Chinese in the small square (chef Peking) is lovely but quite expensive.

Not sure about the Sangria as we never drink it.

ysmith23,

Many of the restaurants and bars close for the winter at the end of the October half term (which this year I believe runs into the first week in November). The advantage of visiting in October is that it is a lot less busy than in summer, and therefore there will not be the queuing for tables at most places, and often slow service that is experienced in peak season.

The Oceanus is at the top of the village, and is central to most of the restaurants and bars. I would agree with animalthatswims about those restaurants that offer the daily deals. I think that maybe Cabrita and Duarte which are closer may also do the same offer. In the opposite direction, about a ten minute walk is a very traditional Portuguese place (Laranjal) which also offers the 'meal deal'. Only been in there once, but the food was nice.

If you like Indian food, you have the Palace (one restaurant on the beach road, and the other down near the Velamar), Tiffany's which does a set price meal (also near the Velamar), and O Licorne which is a five minute walk from Oceanus in the opposite direction and just off the main road. The Chef Peking is excellent, although not cheap. We didn't like the Thai restaurant, but went when newly opened, so it may have improved. S Martinos is decent and portions are very large. Also fairly cheap and plentiful are Tavertinos, and Nelsons which are very close to the Oceanus.

There is plenty of choice, and in the main, there isn't a great deal of difference in prices outside of the ' meal deal' offers, other than a few places which are in the prime locations down by the beach.

animalthatswims,

On a slightly different note, I sent you a pm re one of your previous postings.
