We've booked up for Porto Bay over Xmas but getting a bit concerned everything will be closed!! We are looking for a quiet time but is it going to be a ghost town?!?
A lot of people come to this area for Christmas and New Year, not forgetting the fact that around 40,000 people live in the Albfueira area. A lot of the tourist restaurants and bars open up specifically for that fortnight.
However, everything will be closed on the evening of 24th December. That's the time for Portuguese families to have their main Christmas gathering and go to Mass at midnight. There will be places open on the 25th and as the 26th is not a holiday here, for most people it will be back to normal.

Hi wondering if much open at Christmas 2017 near Vila Petra arriving 21 til 30th shops bar restaurants etc ? 🙂
We are doing xmas dinner just up the road from vila petra and I've just asked on facebook what is open on 25th dec - have had 3 places open so far but on other days plenty will be open as lots here on holiday
That's great was a bit worried it would be too quiet we have our daughter who is 12 on Boxing Day so hopefully we find somewhere to celebrate her birthday 😄
Aww thanks for the info we will definitely be calling into see you and eat while we are there many thanks 😄
Thank you Cubsur for that info very helpful and stops us panicking about her birthday
We were in Olhos over Christmas last year, and we had a great time and fantastic weather (although obviously the days are shorter and the nights are cooler.)
Whilst many of the forty odd restaurants close for the season, there are still a fair few that will be open, and a fifteen to twenty minute walk (or a short inexpensive taxi ride) will get you to nearby restaurants that are not in the centre of Olhos, but which are worth the effort visiting. If the weather is good, it is also nice to sit at one of the bars down by the beach and have a coffee or a beer during the day. The atmosphere is one of total relaxation.
What date are you due to arrive in Olhos? We are going again for Christmas this year, and will arrive on 18th December. If you arrive after that date, I can post and let you know what we find open, as not all places that were open last year will necessarily be open this year, and vice versa.
For a change of scene, it is only a fifteen minute bus ride (2.30 euros each for a single journey) to Albufeira Old Town. From where you get off the bus is a pleasant 10 minute walk down into the town. Buses are every hour during the day on weekdays. A taxi will cost about 8 euros each way.
