Hi Kath, I have been to Karon for the past two years and I now love the place.

If you want a hotel that has direct access to the beach, then there are only two in Karon. They are The Centara Grand Beach Resort (I have stayed here) and The Beyond Resort Karon (which is adults only). The Centara Grand is excellent hotel but you are a good 15/20 minute walk or a tuk tuk/taxi trip to the shops and restaurants etc, but the beach here is excellent and very quiet. The Beyond Resort is near to shops and restaurants but is also nearer to Kata rather than the Karon main area.

Karon Beach is about 1.5 - 2 mile long with hotels running the full length of it. Karon Beach main area is around the Patak Rd and not that much until you reach the Beyond Resort where the life builds up again all the way into Kata.

We stayed the second time at the 4 star Centara Karon Resort, it is no where near as nice as the 5 star resort of Centara Grand Beach Resort but the prices were better and it is in a lot better location for shop/bars/restaurants etc

Centara Karon Beach is a walk to the beach road but has shops bars restaurants right there and is very popular

Beyond Resort at south end of Karon is right on the beach and if you have a seaview room it is very good , close to restaurants etc at south end of the beach

Just to say if you have 17 nights why not think about splitting the time , perhaps spend some night north of Phuket at Khao Lak to make a difference

Right next door to Beyond Karon is Marina Phuket. Beach access, but due to its beautiful jungle type environment, you won't get expansive sea views.tradtional Thai decor. Gorgeous and unique accommodation. Once you walk outside there are many restaurants to choose from. We stayed there last month .

Have a look at khao lak. Lots of beachfront hotels, generally cheaper and less developed.

Miles and miles of beaches, and about an hour or so north of Phuket airport.
