wayanad Trip

Hi Team

We are planning for a trip from Bangalore to Wayanad for 2 nights 3 days in first week of Dec.

Can we consider travel over night travel by Train ?

If we need to travel by road what will be best route, we have already visited Mysore in our earlier trip.

Also any idea about weather condition in Dec at Wayanad

Thanks

Bangalore to Wayanad by train will take longer time. Consider bus or a a cab. If you prefer train, get down at Calicut. Light woolen cloths may be required in Dec.

Bangalore - Wayanad train is not a good option.

Cab would be the best and there are lots of buses which will work out cheaper. And it will pass through Mysore.

Train is not really an option (you will have to travel way out of the path). Road is your option.

The best route from Bangalore is via Mysore-Gundlupet-Bandipur (Bandipur road is closed at nights - plan accordingly). You can also travel via Hunsur but that road is pretty bad (and sometimes confusing).

Weather is nice - slightly cool at nights (light jacket) but not too cold. There are slight chances of rain in december but nothing heavy.

Thanks all for feedback.. we were preferring by train as we have a child and dint prefer bus travel with the kid.

With train as the option please do advise how we can go about.

I shall reconsider travelling by CAB

Where should we plan our stay, do suggest good and few places of visit.

With train : You need to travel from Bangalore to Calicut/Kozhikode-10-11 hours journey . And then 3 hours from calicut to wayanad by bus/cab. There are plenty of buses, in case you chose bus, better book volvo buses from kerala/karnataka ksrtc since you are not used to roads in kerala, you may not hold on with your stomach ;). Also there are 9 hairpin curved ghat section before reaching waynad from calicut.

With Bus/Cab it takes 5-6 hours from Bangalore to Wayanad.

Train will take much longer and still you would need to take road for 3 hours. So take road right away from Bangalore to waynad. The shortest and best route is through Sultan Bathery (Bangalore-mysore-gundelpet-sultan bathery (waynad)) in Waynad has timing restrictions. 9pm to 6 am. So if you want to take this route better start at midnight 12 in cab and reach the kerala-karnataka border by 5.30 to 6 am.

There is another route which does not have time restrictions , but it will take around 2 hours extra. That is through Bangalore-mysore(bypass it)-hunsur-kutta-mananthavadi (wayanad).

Any option its not going to be that easy that you are looking for. But relatively cab from bangalore to waynad via gundelpet/sultan bathery is the best option I feel.

Thanks for your feed back sir.

By reading the above we guess road journey looks better.

We would start on Friday noon by 4 PM from b'lore,

would it be possible for us to reach Wayanad or near by place that we can stay for a night and reach Wayanad or any tournist destination next day?

Please tell us which are the best places to cover in 2 days considering Sat/Sunday and start back on Monday after check out.

As we have a kid I would like to include any wild life attraction if any and few best tourist attractions with lesser travel.

Which place should we choose to stay over night please advise

Thanks

You can visit Pookode lake, Karlad lake, Banasurasagar Dam and one of the wild life sanctuaries - Muthanga or Tholpetty. You will need a local cab for covering these places as none of them have direct bus access. If you still have time you may visit Karapuzha dam and Kanthanpara waterfalls (not too steep trek). With a kid some of the popular attractions like Edakkal caves, Chembra peak, Soochipara waterfalls, Kuruvadeep (closed till first week of December - but check status if you are planning to go there) etc may have to be ruled out as they involve steep climb/trek/difficult terrain .

We were there last week. The climate was pleasant in the mornings and late night but during day time it was very warm. It may be only slightly cooler in December first week - remember that Kalpetta is just about 2500ft above MSL.

If you start at 4pm from bangalore, it will be difficult to pass the bandipur forest before it closes. Best option is to start early morning (around 3am) and you can reach wayanad by the checkin time of most of the stay options.

Since you are travelling with a kid, best option for sightseeing is sanctury or any of the lakes.

There are very good options for stay, you can choose depends on your budget.
