Barbados

Hi all, Where is the best place to stay for our first time in Barbados the last week of the year? We want to be there to ring in the New Year! We have been all over the Carribean but this will be our first time in Barbados. We are 'young at heart' 50-somethings celebrating our 37th anniversary. I've read many forums .... But still need help! Not even sure which side to stay! We would like something a bit upscale on the beach with dining options. The view and the ambiance are important! We do not dive but love to snorkel. Relaxing on the beach from sunrise to sunset is our idea of paradise. Thank you for any suggestions.

We would like to know the answer to this question also as someone who can't get her leave agreed until 7 weeks before the festive season. Can't believe we would have much accommodation to choose from at a reasonable price and flights will be sky high. Can only hope, one day...........

Suggest Fairmont Royal Pavilion on beautifully calm Alleynes Beach in St James - upscale- great snorkeling at Folkestone National Underwater Marine Park with its buoyed area to keep snorkelers safe from water craft.

On the same beach is the upscale restaurant Lonestar - plus 2 beachbars Jujus and Santis http://www.fairmont.com/barbados/

The Fairmont is closed currently for refirbishment. I agree its a great place and stayed there last year but its not open for business.. I had a peek in there this week whilst nearby at Santi and the Lonestar, its a long way from ready.

@anothersadowner, Well it may be ready then and its their peak peak season of course but they need to get a wriggle on as it looked like a war zone last saturday.. I seem to remember a large section was missing the roof!!!

We have a car booked again for friday and a lunch booking at the Lonestar nextdoor (love that salad Nicoise) so will wander along the beach to have a peak into the Fairmont and update this thread.

Well even if they are behind schedule (to be expected in BIM) --- imagine it will certainly be ready by mid Dec - high season (and anyone who is lucky and booked in before it is ready ...Might be in Great Luck and get transferred to CRC like some happy poster yesterday -- ) -

Upscale, try Sandpiper, Coral Reef, Colony Club. They all meet your basic criteria, on the beach, great dining, snorkelling at the door or close.
