Referral Diving; what to expect, where...

We are going to BVI the end of April to sail and dive. We are Chicagoans who did our pool dives up here and hope to do our referral dives dives in the Dogs or another neat place in BVI.

Is it too much to expect to hope to do the Dogs for us rookies? Does Dive BVI go to the Dogs for referrral dives (weather permitting)? Are there recommended guides at Dive BVI? Does anyone recommend another dive company?

Should we just cool it for the referral dives, get comfortable and get certified, and then look to interesting dives after the referral dives?

What other sites do you recommend for novices?

Thanks for any thoughts,

Spike

You need to contact Dive BVI with these questions. Here is the E-Mail for the Leverick Bay cori@divebvi.com

Spike333,

I would definitely contact http://www.divebvi.com/ at your earliest convenience and schedule your dives, as well as other work you are required to do in order to become certified. We did our pool work and course work at home 7 yrs ago and did our certification dives with Dive BVI. Cori, the manager of their Leverick Bay shop, is great to work with, and they also have a highly competent staff at their Spanish Town shop. Dive BVI has excellent boats and their equipment is in great shape. If they have other divers doing their certification dives that week, then that will have an impact where they do the dives. Most of the sites at the Dogs, as well as many other sites in the BVI are easy sites for novice divers. Keep in mind that you will only spend a few mins of each dive doing your certification requirements and the rest of the time you will simply be enjoying your dive and learning how to dive, particularly working on your buoyancy skills. You can see photos of some of the sites we've dove in the BVI, as well as other places, here:

Have a great time, we're going to the BVI again a few weeks after you!
