Base Camp For Exploring Area

We are looking to spend 3-4 days in the Finger Lakes area in late May and was wondering which State Park campground would be the best to serve as our base camp.

Watkins Glen State Park would make a good base for you. If you are planning to visit over Memorial Day weekend, be aware that it is also Cornell graduation weekend so the Ithaca area will be quite busy. Otherwise, Taughannock Falls State Park would be another good option. Both parks are centrally located within the Finger Lakes region.

Thanks for the info.....we will be there the week before Memorial Day so hopefully the weather will be decent and no crowds.

You will want to check to make sure the gorge trails (especially at Watkins Glen) will be accessible. The gorge trail at Watkins Glen is by far the most rewarding trail at that park.
