8 hour layover in Edmonton-what to do?

My family (husband and two daughters ages 7 and 10) will have an 8 hour layover in Edmonton on our way to Europe... not exactly thrilled about a long layover, but we are thinking it might be a great opportunity to see Edmonton. We arrive at 10:30 am on a Saturday at the end of May and depart at 7pm. Is there a train into the city from the airport? Things we must see?

If you don't mind paying $50 each way I would cab it into the Legislature Grounds in Edmonton and take the free tour of the building, then walk around the Leagislature Grounds - (acres of parkland, really beautiful in May) Then take the trolley on 109 Street (across street from the Leg. Bldg.) across to Old Strathcona and go to a restaurant on Whyte Avenue before heading back to the airport by cab. Allow at least 30 minutes each way for the cab. Forget West Edmonton Mall - it;s jsut a mall with the same chain stores as they all have. You won't have time for the waterpark really.
