Travel from crossways / warmwell to Bardsea, lake district

Help required.

My elderly Aunt is a very nervous person and doesn't travel well.

She lives near Warmwell, Dorset and is going to visit her sister in Bardsea, lake district for Christmas.

She is considering spending a lot of money on a taxi all the way.

I have suggested if we can find public transport to the midlands (I live near birmingham and drive). I could meet her off train or coach and then send her out her on the next one. Or I could drive from brum to the lakes. My uncle doesn't mind picking her up from train station and he did mention a station which is a main one to Scotland, near Kendal.

Any ideas? I can see she would have to change at Southampton which she does not want to do. I will carry on googling ideas, but just thought if anyone has any ideas I would be most grateful. If there were more hours in day I would drive down and take her myself.

"My uncle doesn't mind picking her up from train station and he did mention a station which is a main one to Scotland, near Kendal." That would be Oxenholme!

If she's willing to pay for a taxi all the way she could take a taxi to Taunton which is probably her closest on the cross-country train line, that would get her into Birmingham New Street then you could meet her and see her onto the Virgin Train service to Oxenholme.

You can book assistance at stations to help her on/off the train if she needs it but i'd book soon as ticket prices will start creeping up, especially near Christmas.

Only comment to add to the summary in edinem’s post is that there is also a direct train each hour from Bournemouth to Birmingham which I think shortens the initial taxi ride?

Warmwell is very close to East Moreton station, which is on the line to Bournemouth. If you're happy taking the time, you don't actually need a taxi except for Warmwell to Moreton.
