prettiest coastal village

Hello....

We live in the Yorkshire dales, planning a week's holiday in Norfolk in August. I'd be grateful for people's thoughts about where to be, we want to be on the coast for early morning dog walks on the beach, pretty village, not too busy but at least a couple of pubs and a shop, and dog friendly. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

There are sandy beaches all round the coast, but most of the villages are a bit inland, hence a strip of dunes or marshland between them and the sea.

Blakeney is lovely but no sandy beach and we found our dogs had to be kept on leads because

a ) if they went off the paths they were in deep black mud

b) they might disturb nesting birds.

Plenty of good dog walks inland though.

Just to clarify a point in contribution 3. Wells beach is a continuation of Holkham beach but the two are separate and each has its own car park. Both are huge mainly sandy stretches with plenty of room for all. Wells has its own car park, and parking at Holkham is on Lady Anne's drive, the lane leading down to the sea. Both beaches are backed by woods, which make great walk for dogs, and people when the cold notherly wind blows! Wells beach is about a mile from the town, there is a pleasant walk along a raised path between the road and the harbour inlet. There is also mini train which runs from the town to the beach weekends and weekdays in peak periods. There are no restrictions on dogs at Holkham, and a small area at Wells with restrictions - these are clearly marked. There is a good cafe on the car park at Wells which is VERY dog friendly. The whole area is actually under the control of Holkham estates.
