If you're flying into Heathrow with Aer Lingus, then each of you should buy an Oystercard at the underground station and put £20 on them plus £3 as a deposit. The Oystercard will then calculate the cheapest price for each of your journeys up to a daily maximum depending on how far you travel.

At the end of your stay, hand in your Oystercards and get your £3 deposit back plus any unused money.

If you're flying into another airport then you can't use Oystercards immediately, but if you buy ordinary train tickets to get into London then they qualify you for lots of "2 for 1" dscounts.
