According to this www.visityork.org/thedms.aspx… the Xmas market, or St Nicholas Fayre as they call it, starts on 29th Nov which is a week later than most other places !

too early yet for York and in any event most lights are left to individual streets and their traders, so none in Stonegate this year as the traders won't all contribute, but there will be lights elsewhere by St Nicholas Fair, such as in Coppergate Centre but not really worth a special journey. The independent shops etc in York however are always worth a visit whether decked out with lights or not, so come and enjoy York as a City on 24 November rather than just as a Christmas destination

further to the post yesterday, Stonegate will now get its lights, although I doubt anyone will make a special journey to see these! at least they add to the atmosphere.
