Looking for a company to drive a group of 6 adults form St. Andrews to Inverness in September.
If you have a strong aversion to the train and are very wealthy....
its how the locals travel. Consider it a cultural experience.
However there is no station at St Andrews so you'd have to get a bus to somewhere like Dundee and the change at Perth. I'd still do that but i don't think there's a direct public transport route

First time I have heard Scotrail called a cultural experience!
With a party of 6, the cost of a private driver/taxi may not be that much more than one bus and two trains minimum (or one bus and three trains if getting to Leuchars station for train to Dundee), even with applicable railcards if feasible or worthwhile.
Regardless of cost, loading a vehicle once, rather than humping luggage between bus and trains several times has its own appeal.
Using an average Taxi Tariff rate I reckon it will cost around £350, which is under £60 per person, taking just shy of 3 hours.
By train from Leuchars to Inverness I can see fares around £40, however as said, you still need a taxi or bus from St Andrews, and crucially it would take over 4 hours.
In this case I’d be tempted to go the Private Hire Route, I’m sure there are plenty of companies in St Andrews that have Mini-Vans that are used to shuttling Parties of Golfers and their Clubs around.
An enquiry here maybe
Secret Swimmer #3 - The East Coast Main Line stops at Leuchars a matter of minutes from St Andrews, so there is a good rail connection. There are also regular buses to Dundee. I wouldn't go all the way to Perth for this.
