Hello, I am looking to take my little one somewhere where there is snow at Christmas time. Is there always snow at Christmas in Inverness? And is there anything interesting for 5 year olds to do there? Thank you
You can't guarantee snow anywhere at Christmas. In Inverness itself I'd say it's probably quite unlikely. You're more likely to find snow inland on higher ground. Try somewhere round Aviemore or Fort William for more chance of snow but if you want it guaranteed go to Xscape at Braehead!
Aviemore there is usually snow, and there is lots of interesting things for five year olds to do if they like the outdoors.

The Cairngorm Reindeer Centre at Glenmore, The Strathspey Steam Railway running from Aviemore to Broomhill near Grantown and The Funicular Railway up Cairngorm Mountain as well as obvious things like sledging, or maybe snowboard lessons are all things that spring to mind. There are often special events happening over the Christmas period for children at all these attractions.
Inverness is often tropical compared to inland areas because it's close to the sea.
Definitely Aviemore for all the reasons mentioned, but there are no guarantees of snow. Iceland or Norway might be a safer bet
You can't guarantee snow anywhere inhabited in the UK at any time of year. The Scottish Highlands have a better chance than most, but it's far from certain.
Thank you for your answers!
