Can I do this without a car ?

Coming to Ireland mid Sept '18 - 1st timers :)

We are in Dublin for 2 days then off to Galway for 3 full days (4 nights) -

I'm wondering if I really do need a car ?? I hope to see the Cliffs and Connemara as well as Galway in the 4 nights / 3 full days we have.

We can take the train from Dublin Hueston to Galway, and the bus back to Dublin. We chose the bus as it would take us direct to airport without having to transfer w/ luggage.

Will we be able to book tours last minute for Sept - want to still have some choice once we get there and figure out what the weather is going to give us before we commit.

Thanks very much !

Worst case, you could rent one for a day or two in Galway, but you should be fine without a car.

Hi Susan,

You can take the Citylink bus to Clifden, take the Connemara Hop on hop off bus Clifden > Leenane & return.

https:/…

Consider taking the Citylink to Cleggen Pier and the Inishbofin ferry 11:30AM to Inishbofin for the day return at 5PM & get the bus back to Galway.

Thank you Kesh Grammy from another Susan. Five weeks from today we arrive in Galway for three nights without a car and this information is very helpful!

We used the bus as suggested by Kesh_grammy and also booked a one day tour with Jim at http://www.irelandwesttours.com/. Lots to see in Galway just by walking as well.

The majority of these Trip Reports of getting around Ireland without a car, feature Galway as one of the bases, some for as many as 5 or 6 nights:

Other Day Tour operators include:

http://www.galwaytourcompany.com

http://wildatlanticwaydaytours.com

https://lallytours.com

http://www.bus.ie

They will definitely be offering tours in September.

Most of the Day Tours operate from The (New) Coach Station shown at marker 2 here on this map:

http://www.townmaps.ie/galway.html

The train station and Bus Eireann stations are shown nearby, at marker f, in the map above.

A decent selection of hotels and B&B accommodation close to the area.

If you want B&Bs, check College Road - a continuation of Forster St - shown on the map.

If you let us know your budget in Euro per night and you want a hotel, it will be easier to make appropriate suggestions.
