3 Day Trip to Nice, Cannes, Monte Carlo

Hi :)

Myself and a couple of friends are travelling to Nice, end of the third week of september and are looking to explore the city as much as possible even though we know 3 days arent enough, so hoping to get some good suggesstions/tips :)

We're planning to cover Nice, Monte Carlo and Cannes (one for each day) but were wondering if we need an entire day for Cannes and Monte Carlo each?

Also, we'd love to go to a public beach (in any of the places), and have a little dip in the water, would it be too cold to do so? We'd also like to go scuba diving, but not sure if it's worth it or if it'll be too cold / not the best experience. What would you say are the best beaches to visit?

We're staying put in Nice, so coming back to our hotel every night. Could you purchase the train tickets to the cities at the station? (I checked online, its about £10 return, not sure if the prices increase close to travel date).

Would love to try lots(cheap) of food/dessert/wine and find nice spots to take great pictures. Any suggestions would help :D

The beaches should be good weather-wise.

Cannes has great fine sand beaches. They are all "public" in that you can go to them. You can rent a lounger and umbrella or go to the big section by the end closer to the port and lay out on your own for free.

Please see the views re Monaco in the other post with a similar title to yours. If you still want to do Monaco, then a few hours at most.

You may want to visit the beautiful seaside village of Villefranche Sur mer. Right next to Nice with its own little public beach.

Note that the beach in Nice is rocky so you should bring beach shoes.

You sound fun to travel with, or at least have same ideas in mind as I do...I'm heading to the same exact areas last week of September. Did you come up with a good plan?

Cannes and Monaco require no more than 3 hours each. The usual combination is Cannes/Antibes west of Nice and Monaco/Villefranche east of Nice. Trains run commuter style 2 to 3 an hour all along the coast. Monaco takes 20 mins and Cannes 40 mins. Buy a ticket to Cannes at 7 euro or Monaco for 3.90 euro and you can get off on the way and reboard for no additional fare.

Buy tickets at the counter if automatic machines. No change in fare.

Sea temperature will be perfect and plenty swimming. The best sandy beaches are at Juan les Pins (Antibes' twin town) and Cannes. Antibes itself has 3 beaches ..all entirety public and free but a bit further walk from the station than Cannes or Juan les Pins.

Antibes has a diving (plongeurs)centre beside the Ponteil Beach. You will have to contact them re membership rules.

If you do want some great views and photo ops, you should really try to head to a smaller village like Villefranche-sur-mer (and Cap Ferrat), as mentioned above, and/or Eze. (and of course, go to the top of Castle Hill /. Le Chateau)

There are several dive operators at the Nice Port, catering to a wide range of skill levels.

But, that starts to pack a lot in, even with a cursory visit.

Thank you all so much for the great, helpful responses! :) Monaco/Cannes are not set in stone, so we can definitely alter our plan accordingly.

HI WB Loud glad

we are coming to nice for 4 days in 2 weeks . I just saw this post and found useful to plan my trip to diffrent cities .

(Cannes and Monaco require no more than 3 hours each. The usual combination is Cannes/Antibes west of Nice and Monaco/Villefranche east of Nice. Trains run commuter style 2 to 3 an hour all along the coast. Monaco takes 20 mins and Cannes 40 mins. Buy a ticket to Cannes at 7 euro or Monaco for 3.90 euro and you can get off on the way and reboard for no additional fare.)

Is that means if we buy a ticket to monaco we can get off villefranche and reboard the train ,say about after 2 hours for no extra cost ???? Thank you for your help .

Yes you can get off at Villefranche (or anywhere on the route) with a Monaco ticket and reboard. Either way. But make sure you validate (punch it to get a time stamp) your ticket in the yellow machines each time.

do not use the trains unless you want your break spoiled dirty station and toilets unhelpful staff waiting rooms closed there is a 1.50 bus for 74 minutes each way nice views as runs along the coast both to Monaco and Cannes best option by far good luck with trip

dave m-- We have always found trains to be efficient and clean. Agreed that loitering in a train station is not always pleasant. The bus to Monaco is OK and does have nice views, but no way I'd take a bus all the way to Cannes...
