rail service from switzerland to germany

I am traveling for the first time to Europe and am landing in zurich, staying a few days then on to germany, i need advice regarding rail transportation between these two countries, i am aware of the "passes" you can purchase on line , however is it possible to purchase these when we get there , it gives you the impression that you have to do it before.

Depends which pass you like. With Eurail passes only some types are available in Europe at all, as these passes are only for Non-European residents anyway.

Apart from the limited availability it's wise to buy them before with the current exchange rate USD/EUR. Prices for these passes are fixed in USD. If you buy them in Europe you have to pay in EUR or CHF and this will be considerably more expensive.

You can use the DB website to research train fares to Germany and for tavel around the country.

Based upon your itinerary, it many be cheaper to just buy point-to-point tickets. There are day tickets for the Federal States and local/regional train service.
