Baggage weight on Spanish trains

Is the weight of luggage really a factor when travelling on spanish trains i.e up to 3 pieces per person totalling 20kg which is way under

the amount allowable on aircraft especially when we are allowed upto 30kg per person. Does someone weigh each suitcase at the

train station?

There is no facility to have your case weighed at train stations. Remember though that there are no porters and you have to carry your own cases. Also there is limited luggage storage space on the trains.

Delve into the RENFE website and you will find weight limitations. In practice, as advised at #1, no checks are made.

As said above, the practical limits will be how much you can carry yourself, and where to stuck it once in the train. So, the smaller and lighter, the better :)

If you take a flight within the E.U. there is normally a weight limit of 25kgs per case which is a health and safety issue.

At some train stations where AVE trains (high speed) run from all bags must be x-rayed, again your bag must be of a size to go through the tunnel (think airport scanner)

RENFE site I think states limit as 23 kgs, determined as large case, holdall, handbag/briefcase.

We travel often by train and the only problem I have seen is the size of the bags rather then weight. large cases have to be left in the racks at the start of each carriage, we always try to book a seat nearby to keep an eye on them.

Beversace:

If you cannot find space on the racks at the end of each car, then you will have to put your luggage on the overhead rack. So if you have heavy luggage, you may find this hard to do.
