Look at Calella de Palafrugell, Llafranc, Tamariu, Tossa de Mare perhaps. These will suit you down to the ground.

Tossa de Mar is very nice. We enjoyed a lovely day there. The old town is beautiful.

I like Tossa de Mar a lot, but Calella de Palafrugell is more in the center of the Costa Brava to visit the other towns.

The Central Costa Brava is not easily accessible by public transport, possibly one of the reasons it remains unspoilt, so you may want to consider car hire. The 'best' areas have already been suggested around Begur and it's beaches: Aiguablava, Sa Riera, Sa Tuna etc. Calella de Palafrugell is a lovely little fishing village set across several bays, nearby Llafranc which you can walk to via the coastal path (GR92) and Tamariu. This is the Costa Brava you see on the adverts. There are also many places of interest to visit just inland from the coast.
