Pompeii or Herculaneum in mid-November

Hello-

We'll be in Sorrento next week and would like to go see Mt. Vesuvius and some ruins. We're traveling with our 2 kids ages 9&7. Would you recommend Pompeii or Herculaneum? Also, what's the best way to get there? I'm thinking the Campania Train but just wanted to see how easy this is.

Thanks!

Pompeii is an exstensive area, and Herculaneum more compact

Been to Pompeii twice and loved it! I would go back a third time as it’s huge. Wanted to see Herculaneum but storms this week prevented it. Both are easily accessible from the train.

For me its Herculaneum all the way, smaller site but more complete much better day out for two children of that age, less chance for them to get tired and bored.

Pompeii....site is a couple of minutes away from the train station.

Herculaneum....site is a good ten minute walk from the train station.

Both are wonderful and easy to get to by train.

Hi

Please note that the Campania Express train has stopped running for the season. I also think Herculaneum might be better for children because it's smaller than Pompeii. Both are good though.

Circumvesuviana train. We've used it with no problems whatsoever but keep all valuables secure just in case.

Pompeii for me, but with kids that young Herculaneum is probably the better option. I will say that November might be ideal to see Pompeii though, since hardly any shade there and won't be hot like Spring or Summer.

We did Pompeii in December. Truly amazing!
