Hi visiting 27/9 to 30/9 is both these places recommended to visit from como? Same day or two separate days !? Thanks
One day for each place if time permits. Varenna is a good place with ferry port and overlooked by a 11th century ruined castle. You might want to inquire about seeing Fiumelatte located south of Varenna but close enough to visit the site called "foaming stream" as river of milk. Varenna stands on a promontory with many gardens. Villa Monastero has beautiful gardens too. Bellagio occupies a magnificent site on a promontory dividing Lake Lecco from the southern part of Lake Como. It is gracious and splendid resort town worth your time with a world- wide reputation for friendliness and excellent amenities. Villa Serbelloni has gardens to visit with guided tours. Serbelloni is a noteworthy name for eighteenth century European history. Also Villa Melzi with luxurious vegetation and gardens is there. These are among the main sites in Bellagio with a location on the lake shore not to be missed. One of the more scenic parts of Northern Italy. See them both. Bellagio is on the cusp of the lake's two arms and has an elegant promenade. Hope this helps.
" visit from como? "
I am assuming by your comment that you are staying in Como town itself?
You can do a circular route within a day:
Walk to the ferry dock
Take the ferry from Varenna to Bellagio
Take the slow ferry from Bellagio back to Como ferry dock
(Take your time to explore Varenna and Bellagio)

One day should do it if it's only those two towns you are interested in seeing. But definitely consider at least one more day for the other beautiful towns and villas. We did the east lake towns one day, Lecco (beautiful!) to Bellano. And the next day we did the west side towns.
Since you are going to Varenna, I suggest going to nearby Bellano too. It's one train stop or boat stop away. Google Bellano images and "Orrido di Bellano" to see what you might be missing. The gorge with waterfalls only takes an hour or less to visit. We enjoyed Bellano more than Varenna.
To maximize your limited time, plan ahead by knowing the boat (or train or bus) arrival and departures times. Smart travelers get to the boat dock at least 10 minutes before the scheduled departure. At Como, you might need to get there much before that. I've seen some very long lines to board the lake boat at Como.
