Trani or Monopoli for a day trip.

We're shortly revisiting Apulia for a few days and staying in Bari. We'd quite like to do a day trip in the immediate vicinity and have settled on Monopoli and Trani as the nearest obvious choices. Which is the better choice for somewhere to enjoy an interesting stroll and a good meal?

I should say we're planning to use the train for transport.

I preferred Monopoli, when we visited both in April. But we didn't have a meal in either

Hi, we visited both in early June and have to say we preferred Monopli. Both are pleasant to walk around but we found Monopli old town far more interesting and it may sound strange but Trani looked more Venetian than Puglian whereas Monopli old town is a maze of narrow streets. We ate in both towns and Trani most probably wins with this one with choice as the large harbour side is full of restaurants having said that there are nice little restaurants tucked away in Monopoli old town.

Trani is more upmarket while Monopli is a bit more nitty gritty in a nice way.
