Circumetnea Train

Please help with the routing on the Circumetnea railway!

We would like to go from Catania Centrale to Giarre-Riposto, then catch the 12:15 Circumetnea train going from Riposto to Randazzo (arriving at Randazzo at 13:21, transfer to the 14:39 Circumetnea train going from Randazzo to Catania Borgo.

1. do we take a regular Trenitalia train from Catania Centrale to the Giarre-Riposto station?

2. Does the Circumetnea train in Riposto start from the same station as the Giarre-Riposto station? The schedule shows departure times for both Riposto and Giarre. Are these separate stations on the Circumetnea line? If so, which station should we go to once we get to Giarre-Riposto station from Catania Centrale.

3. Can we purchase tickets for the Circumetnea trains at the train stations in Catania Centrale or Giarre-RIposto?

Would appreciate your help!

Thanks so much!

1. Re: Circumetnea Train

The route from Catania to Giarre is served daily by 24 trains leaving from to the station of Catania Centrale and arriving at to the station of Giarre-Riposto.

It's possible to buy a train ticket for an average price of 4$. The best price for the next few days is 3$.

It looks like Giarre

on google maps it looks there is one stop hafl way between Giarre and Riposto

1. Yes

2. Yes, Giarre and Riposto are different stations. The Giarre station on the Circumetnea line is next to the Giarre-Riposto station from Trenitalia. The Riposto station is 1,5 km away from Giarre-Riposto.

3. Not sure.

It's a five minute walk across the goods yard from Giarre-Riposto mainline station to the Circumetnea station. If you get to the Circumetnea station by 11 30, you can catch the inbound train down to the terminus at Riposto. Not that there's much near the station there - a roundabout with a little park in the middle and a bar or two around it (or a ten minute walk to the seafront) but you'd get pick of the seats for the 12 15 departure.

I don't think the mainline stations sell tickets for the Circumetnea. The €7.90 ticket back to Catania should get you a free ride on the Metro from Borgo station toward the city centre.
