Hotel Help: Tornabuoni Beacci, Botticelli Hotel, Orto De Med

Hello all,

We will be in Florence for 4 nights this May. We are relatively active and look forward to walking around alot and taking in the sights.

However, we are torn right now between the Tornabuoni Beacci Hotel, Botticelli Hotel, Orto De Med, and Waldorf Suite Firenze.

All have gotten outstanding reviews on TA, so we don't know which to pick!

The Botticelli and Orto De Medici looks like it's in the heart of the city, within the closest walking distance to all the sights.

The Tornabuoni Beacci is right on the river which would be nice to see.

The Waldorf Suites seem to have the most contemporary rooms.

Can anyone offer any additional insights to any of these or offer any suggestions for a similar price range? (~$175/night)

Thank you in advance!!

I would actually say the Tornabuoni is nearer the places you are most likely to be attracted to - Ponte Vecchio, Uffizi, Palazzo vecchio and the Duomo. It's also in my favourite street in florence and I would stay there.

The river is right in the center of Florence, you will see it all the time. the traffic on the road parrallel to the river is loud; you don't want to be on such a big street. there is a Zona pedonale, area where you must be on foot, in Florence. You want to sleep there. The Pensione Medici is always my top recommendation, it is very inexpensive, has an elevator, rooms on the top floor have doors that go out to patios that are at the height of the dome of the cathedral. Spend your extra money on good food. Book a room with a bathroom or go for the shared bath rooms, they still have a sink and mirror in the room itself.

Or, stay up in Fiesole. The best place is just as you get off the bus, on the right, a big old buliding right there in the heart of this Etruscan town, very quiet. If you have a car there is a place about 300 yards below this that is also wonderful You will want to get out of the noise and bustle of Florence; take the number 7 bus up in the evening if nothing else and have pizza at an outdoor place there. Watch to make sure you don't miss the last bus down the hill. Buses leave from Piazza San Marco.

You should be able to find a place to sleep for well under $100; go to the train station when you get there and they will do the calls and make reservations for you. Don't think that you want or need air conditioning, the Italians don't like it so you'll be staying with foreigners if you demand this forced air that makes you get colds and flu.....

enjoy, it is a wonderful place.

The Tornabuoni Beacci is not "right on the river".

It is right on the Via Tornabuoni, which is perpendicular to the river, and the Beacci is more than one block from the river.

Nevertheless, it is a lovely place, with roof-top terraces with superb views.

Via del Corso, which is where Pensione Maria de Medici is, is quite noisy from night revellers.
