Is a ticket for Pisa required if you cannot climb the tower?

Hi, we are visiting the Pisa tower on the 11th of June. Given that we will have our 10 mnth old with us we are contemplating wether we should go up the stairs at all! Can someone tell me if I need to spend the 36euros to buy two tickets just to be near the tower or we can look at it from the ground without having to buy the tickets? Any help would be great.

You don't have to pay to view the tower from the ground and children under 8 are not allowed up anyway.

You can walk around the Piazza walkways and view all the monuments without buying a ticket and going inside. There are a limited amount of free tickets for entry into the Duomo (Cathedral), shoulders and knees must be covered.

As OCpony says. You can get really close to the tower without paying to go up.

The official site is in my Post #2, it is 18 Euro to climb the Tower. The ticket is capacity controlled (about 30 people) and time sensitive.

My daughter will be 7 yrs old when we go, but 8 yrs in 2 months after. Are they that picky, or will I be able to say she is 8?

Yes they are that picky. I had to show ID for my child (who was 13 but small at the time).
