Train: Florence to Pisa to La Spezia

Hi, We will be in Florence in August for five days and then will head for Cinque Terre for a couple of days. I would like to keep open the option (based on weather, etc.) of either going to Pisa as a day trip or stopping off on our way to La Spezia (we are traveling by train). Will we have any trouble getting train tickets the same day for either option?

Thanks.

All trains from Firenze S. M. Novella to Pisa Centrale are Regional trains with fixed prices and no reserved seats so they can never sell out, as are all direct trains from SMN to la Spezia. So no problems there.

In addition to the Regional trains between Pisa and la Spezia, there are also more expensive (on the day of travel) Frecciabianca trains to la Spezia and Intercity trains to la Spezia and Monterosso. These have mandatory seat reservation included with your ticket, so in theory they can sell out, but that is highly unlikely. And if they did, there are still the Regional trains.

There is also a Frecciabianca train at 07.38 from Firenze Campo di Marte to la Spezia which in theory can sell out.
