Looking for trip suggestions

We are a family of 4 and will be traveling in June. We have two little kids - 3 and 6 - and will have a car. We are spending a week near San Gimignano with extended family and then have 3 days to explore before flying out of Rome. We've heard Lakes Bolsena, Bracciano, and Trasimeno are worth visiting, but I am curious if anyone suggests one over the other. Also, is there anywhere else in southern Tuscany/Umbria that would be nice to explore a small town, do some short hikes, nature exploring, checking out a castle, getting gelato of course, etc... with small kids? What would be different from the area of Tuscany we are already staying in? The kids won't be into museums or churches so we are looking for more kid-friendly ideas (but not amusement parks and that sort of thing).

Thanks!

A few more questions -

Lake Trasimeno isn't too far from San Gimignano so maybe a day trip if we need it??

The Dying City - interesting for kids?

Marmore Waterfalls - anything near it or is it worth a visit?

Siena - anything for kids, sounds like an amazing town...?

Where would you go if only a short amount of time?

Hi Erika

We've taken our kids to Passignano sul Trasimeno, Siena and the Marmore Waterfalls in the summer.

The walk along the shore in Passignano is nice in the mornings. There are a couple of cafes shaded by trees and a small kids playground. You can also take a boat tour of the lake.

In Siena, the kids mostly enjoyed chasing the pigeons in the Piazza.

We took a picnic to the Marmore waterfalls. It is very beautiful and the kids liked it.

You could also think about Ciita Della Domenica (Perugia), Rocca Paolina (Perugia) or a tour of the chocolate factory in San Sisto.

Thanks for your suggestions! Was there anything else to see/do near Marmore Waterfalls? Is it worth driving out of the way a bit? It looks a lot of other things we want to see are in the other direction (towards Rome). Thanks again.

I wouldn't go out of my way to see the Marmore waterfalls if time is an issue. For younger children a picnic or a gelato and the walk from the top to the bottom of the falls would be about it.

Another option might be the Bomarzo monster park near Viterbo if you are going in the direction of Rome.
