Where to stay?

I know this has been asked many times. My wife and I (upper 60s) have decided to take a short trip 4 days at the end of May. Would like opinions on where to stay, somewhere centrally position to sights, shoot, and restaurants. Would like to stay around $200 a night? Less would be nice? We

Thanks

Please don't shoot in town. I have had enough of people shooting up my street.

If you want hotel recs then dates are crucial

Should I worry about gunshots in the Pijp. Is it safe for me, as a girly man, to walk alone at night.

What you have to understand is that hotel rates in Amsterdam can swing a lot depending on your dates. You can continue to be obtuse or to get good recommendations you can give folks trying to help your dates.

I used the friends and family approach-------what would I suggest for one of my own.

I started at the lowest price for listed hotel then kept going until I found something well located , in walked distance of all things central, at least a 3*, and well reviewed.

I saw two-----and neither within budget

Hotel Vondel a well reviewed four star for about $240 a night plus tax.

At $221 plus tax I saw a well reviewd five star, a bit farther out in a lovely upscale residential area near the Hilton, , a 7+ five star at the opaque discount site-----priceline express deal. This hotel will no doubt be the bilderberg garden.

That's it. Everything else is farther out, less well reviewed, more expensive, .

So I presume you stayed at Hotel Vondel ? If you did how was it. Price of $240 isn’t a problem. Is it well situated? Would like to be in the best location where we can walk out the door and walk mostly everywhere if possible.

Never stayed at the Vondel but have followed it for years. It's in the museum zone out near Vondel park. That's a fairly central location where if reasonably fit you can walk everywhere. But you will have tram stops within easy reach if you want.

It's a decent average four star.

Having stayed myself in much better five stars as well as poor 1 star dumps I think most people would be fine with the Vondel.

The Bilderberg that opaque offer is good as well but a bit farther out

As always read the reviews but take high prices, and small rooms with a grain of salt-------it's Amsterdam after all.
