Advice re. exchange of British pounds for Baht please?

We’ll be staying at the Melia and we’re wondering what the best method is of acquiring baht when we’re there? In Bali we take pounds and exchange them in a pleasant local exchange office in Sanur. The rate is always better than bringing rupiah with us from the UK.

Is it more or less the same in Choeng Mon?

Salud!!

It is usually better to exchange your pounds to local currency in the country not at home.

If you are going to Bangkok, best to change there. Rates in UK are not bad now, if you buy online but still about 1 baht less than best rates in Bangkok. Outside Bangkok rates tend to be lower.

These are too rates in Bangkok and also bank rates nationwide: https://daytodaydata.net/

Hi

There are lots of forex booths in resort in Choeng Mon. The rates vary a little. To be honest we have found recently that the light blue bank [Krung Thai] in Central Mall, Chaweng has had the best rate.

Take crisp new fresh unmarked £50 notes, as these often get a slightly better rate too

If you are stopping in Bangkok, rather than just transiting to another flight, then agree about the forex booths in the basement at BKK where the railway station is. They have much better rates, even better than in BKK airport.

About 6% difference between inside the airport and down by the ARL.

Thanks for the helpful replies. It looks like the Chaweng Central Festival Mall is quite a distance from the Melia? Are the local places in Choeng Mon recommended and basically legit??

We have the same question.

Does anyone know a good FX place near Four Seasons?

We tend to use ATM but will have to bring 500 GBP for visa on arrival

GBR and VOA?

If you are British you don't get VOA.

There are Forex in Choeng Mon. I was just advising on where you could get your money to go further.

A British passport holder does not need a visa, or. Visa on arrival (VOA) we automatically get a 45 day stamp currently

If you get chance at Suvarnabhumi airport change at one of the three exchangers in the basement near the Airport Rail Link. All were offering the same rate when I was leaving last week. There's Super rich, Happy rich and another one. Slightly better rate for £50 notes.
