In Pyrgi :)

Arrived here about 6.45am, checked in, lovely old house, our room has a high stone vaulted ceiling :)

Unpacked quickly & went for a reviving coffee, got a few supplies, back to change & have a snack. Came back out to explore more of the village"a tiny streets & a little old man came out of one of the houses with a toothless grin & asked in rapid fire Greek if we were the foreigners from Athens! The news of visitors in town has spread pretty quickly , we are famous :)

Uh-oh, we're in trouble! Got back for a rest (we've been up since 2.30am), room owners & neighbors insist we join them sitting in the street for some food & ouzo. Ok, no problem, but then the souma is brought out & we couldn't leave until it was all gone! Need to sleep now for sure :)

I had to look up souma - a spirit made from figs! Sounds dangerously good! Enjoy.

2bristolians, it's described as being for 'serious drinkers'!

I could persuade myself to be a serious drinker for a short while! I love anything with figs & after I read that post I had to go hunt in the cupboard for a couple of dried figs to chew on. Can you pop some fig spoonfruit in a jiffy bag . . . . Just to keep me going!

I'll be on Chios this October and still have not finalized my stays although Mesta, Volissos and Chinos Town are scheduled.

Where in Pyrgi are you staying? I couldn't get many resposnes from accommodation's owners there.

I've heard of the Souma and love dried figs. Here in the US we can't get really good fresh figs so have to rely on dried ones. I can only imagine a liquor made from figs . . . I can't wait to try a drink or two . . . and probably three!

When in Greece I find myself drinking a lot more alcohol . . . which really isn't a bad thing . . . as the old Spartan saying goes: "Live for Today . . . for tomorrow we may die!"
