Summer holidays

We are considering visiting Austria in early July, for two weeks, and would like to spend each week in a different place. We are interested in easy to moderate walks, and some excursions in the event of bad weather. We need good public transport links and will be flying in and out of Munich. At the moment we are looking at Seefeld, Kitzbühel and Zell am See. Does anyone have feedback on those places in summer, and which might work well together? Thanks.

Thanks. I had looked at the Wolfgangsee area but it didn’t seem as easy to get around without a car.

oh, its very easy. its on the 150 bus route from salzburg to bad ischl. st gilgen is 45 mins from the city and then going to bad ischl let you catch the train to hallstatt and 5 fingers. there is a terrific amount of activities in the area. check the wolfgangsee website.

Hi, have been to Seefeld 8 times and am going again in June, it's beautiful the centre is flat with plenty of cafe's and bars, great if you like to people watch. The walking is as easy or as hard as you want to make it. You can catch the train to Innsbruck (just over 30 mins and about 11 euro return) a visit to Rattenburg in Bavaria is worthwhile about 15 mins by train ( we found it cheaper than the bus). We enjoyed a trip to Munich but as you are flying in there not sure you would want to trail back).

Have also been to Kitzbuhel it's great, again lots of easy walking the evenings are fairly lively (not rowdy) with plenty of bars and restaurants. Good train and bus services. St Johann is a nice place to visit a 2/3 hour mainly level walk or you can catch a train.

Mayrhofen is also lovely but we find the walking a little more hard going (but we aren't exactly spring chickens).

Hope this helps.

Just FYI: Driving is very easy in that part of Europe and driving does provide much more flexibility in where you go and how long it takes to get there. Even we 70 year old+ US citizens were able to handle it with no problems. Just letting you know--how we (or anyone else) choose to travel on a particular trip depends on a lot of factors.

Another vote for Seefeld for at least one week. Have stayed there 6 times and would go back again in a heartbeat.
