Day trip between Zurich and Innsbruck

Hi!

I'm looking for a small town or village to make a stop between Zurich and Innsbruck. Basically we arrive on Wednesday, visit a family member in Lucerne and do not need to be in Innsbruck until Saturday.

Could you please recommend something for us to do / visit for a day in between on Friday? We prefer not to stay in Zurich as it will be quite expensive!

Would Lichtenstein be a good idea? Or some other town in Austria?

Thank you!

Hi Charlotte

If you are going in Summer (after 1st June) and travelling by train (need more info here!), I would stay in St Anton. Its on the train line to Innsbruck from Zurich. It does not really get going until about mid June but there will be hotels and B&B's open.

If you are going by train, then have a look at the following link;

Perhaps a bit more information from you will produce better responses.

Hi! Thank you so much for your reply and links.

We will be travelling May 11-13. Will there be anything to do during this time in ski town? It looks beautiful, nevertheless. My mother and I do not ski, but we love nature, the alpine scenery and nice food.

Wondering if St Anton will still be a good place to stopover?

Thank you, to both!

St Anton is a great opportunity if you love nature and alpine scenery. However in May cable cars for the hiking season are not open yet and the village will be very quiet.

As an alternative Bludenz would be Option. khs.info/en/towns/bludenz/information.html

It#s a very charming alpine town and you have the posisbility to use the cable car to get up to 'Muttersberg' mountain: www.muttersberg.at/

From Zürich there are some direct trains to Bludenz (around 1:50 hours)

More Information on Train travel you'll find on: www.oebb.at

Kind regards Chrissy

Possible intermediate stops are Feldkirch, which is a worthwhile medival town in Vorarlberg, Bregenz or maybe Lindau. I personally would go for Feldkirch, from there it would also be easy to visit the other places mentioned by train.

Also be informed that there are construction works on the railway line between Buchs SG (Switzerland) and Feldkirch (Austria) leading to an interruption of all train services until the beginning of July.

Hi Charlotte

Yes, St Anton will be out of season in mid May but if you just want some nice scenery and for one night, its still worth considering. Most hotels will not be open but you could try the following which may have rooms;

Hotel Gasthof Freisleben - nice 3 star with restaurant (good for vegs, and vegans) about 1 klm from station

http://www.hotel-freisleben.at/en/

Otherwise, the suggestion of Bregenz or Feldkirch is good.
